Brazilian Carnival at UW-River Falls to kick off the Year of Brazil

August 26, 2016--A community event, Carnaval Brasileiro, celebrating Brazilian culture through music, dance, art, and food, will be hosted by the Universty of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 7-10 p.m. under the big tent on the University Center mall. The event is free and open to the public.

This event will feature the phenomenal 10-piece band Beira Mar Brasil, complete with a horn section and loads of heart pounding hand percussion. Beira Mar Brasil, led by Robert Everest,  is the most established Brazilian carnival band in Minnesota, with more than 15 years of entertaining in the Twin Cities and beyond. They have performed at the Ordway Theatre, the Walker Art Center, and the Minnesota Zoo.

The Year Of program offers, over the course of a full academic year, a wide-ranging look at a country from its earliest history right up to current events. The program uses a multidisciplinary approach in order to understand and appreciate other countries and cultures.
