Andris Straumanis joined the faculty in 2005. He teaches courses in print and online journalism, visual communication, mass communication, media law, and media history. He also advises the campus newspaper, the Student Voice.
Straumanis brings a range of practical and academic experience to UWRF. His professional experience includes more than a dozen years as a reporter, editor and photographer for weekly and business newspapers in Illinois and Minnesota. His research interests
focus on the history of immigrant and ethnic periodicals as well as the development of community and diasporic media. Straumanis has presented his research at academic conferences organized by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication
(AEJMC) and the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS).
