EPP Testing Information

Testing Requirements

 Teacher candidates are required to complete state required tests as part of their teacher preparation.  The following is an overview of the Educator Preparation Program's testing requirements.

  • Basic Skills Testing (ACT, Praxis I PPST, Praxis I CORE, SAT, GRE, MTLE EAS)
    • completed before or during a candidates first year in the program. 
    • demonstrates a teacher candidate has the basic reading, writing, and math skills to train to be a teacher 
    • required for admission to the Educator Preparation Program
  • Content Testing (Praxis II, Language Testing International)
    • completed approximately one year before student teaching
    • each content area has it's own unique exam requirements
    • must be completed and passed before beginning student teaching
  • Wisconsin Foundations of Reading Test (FORT)
    • required for early childhood, elementary and graduate reading teachers
    • attempted after completion of the reading course(s) in your program
      • elementary majors (teacher education 316 Block II)
      • graduate elementary education (reading 760)
      • early childhood majors (teacher education 322)
      • reading program (during second summer session)
  • edTPA
    • attempted during student teaching
    • required for initial teacher licensing
    • a performance based assessment
