Special collections include Newspapers and our Rare Books and Local History collection, which is comprised of printed fiction/non-fiction, internally compiled research indexes, non-government genealogical materials, and miscellaneous local history materials.

  • Publications from the four-county area, which include Burnett, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties
  • Mainly on microfilm but also some in print
  • Digitized newspapers available online, search our Databases, A-Z (must be signed in) for "Wisconsin newspapers"

Rare Books and Local History collections include such things as:

  • local and county histories
  • printed family histories and genealogies
  • church and cemetery records
  • maps and atlases
  • oral histories
  • federal and state census records
  • local serials
  • telephone books
  • older agricultural, Civil War, and Wisconsin and Saint Croix Valley history books
  • area cookbooks
  • books authored by local area residents
  • books authored by UWRF faculty, staff, or students
