Kernahan receives Dykstra Faculty Excellence award at UW-River Falls
Cyndi Kernahan, psychology professor and assistant dean for teaching and learning in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, has been named the recipient of the 2016-17 Paul B. and Robert Dykstra Faculty Excellence Award.
 
UW-River Falls dairy judging team takes third place at Harrisburg
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Dairy Judging Team took third place overall at the 2016 All-American Invitational Dairy Cattle Judging Contest Sept. 19 in Harrisburg, Pa. A total of 13 universities competed in the collegiate division where team members judged 10 classes of cattle and gave oral reasons on five of the classes. The top five individuals and teams were recognized.
 
‘Unbroken Traditions & Intuitive Teachings: The Life-Long Mentorship of Randy Johnston’ art exhibition
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Art Department presents an exhibition “Unbroken Traditions & Intuitive Teachings: The Life-Long Mentorship of Randy Johnston” Sept. 7-Oct. 14 in Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. This exhibition celebrates Professor Randy Johnston and his 23 years of teaching and service at UW-River Falls. Johnston and an invited group of alumni share Gallery 101 to present a collection of artworks demonstrating his life-long commitment of maker and mentor.

The public is invited to the 52nd Annual UW-River Falls Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, at the outdoor rodeo arena at the UWRF Campus Farm at 1475 S. Wasson Lane on the corner of Wasson Lane and Cemetery Road in River Falls.
 
Annual outdoor art exhibition set for Oct. 5-6 at UW-River Falls
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Art Department announces the 25th Annual Outdoor Art Installations October 5-6 on campus. The event showcases faculty and students works of art designed to highlight a specific site on the UWRF campus grounds.
 
Brazilian Carnival at UW-River Falls to kick off the Year of Brazil
A community event, Carnaval Brasileiro, celebrating Brazilian culture through music, dance, art, and food, will be hosted by the Universty of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 7-10 p.m. under the big tent on the University Center mall. The event is free and open to the public.

A community event, Just Local, focusing on bringing people together to learn about the importance of being an engaged community member and supporting the local economy will be hosted by UW-River Falls on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. under the big tent on the University Center mall. New online master’s degree in health and wellness prepares graduates for management roles in the health promotion industry
As health and wellness programs continue to grow, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls is one of five University of Wisconsin institutions and the University of Wisconsin-Extension offering an online Master of Science in Health and Wellness Management degree to address this rapidly evolving industry. Applications for the graduate degree program are now open.

With the Fall Career Fair at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls set for Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Riverview Ballroom of the University Center, Career Services has taken further steps to make it even easier for students and employers to find one another through a newly redesigned internships website.
 
River Falls on path To add swinging bridge to national list of historic places
Residents of River Falls may see a favorite local spot become more popular if it gets listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The "Swinging Bridge" over the Kinnickinnic River, also known as the Glen Park Suspension Footbridge, came out on top of places for the city to consider for historic preservation.
 
U.S. News names UW-River Falls a Best Regional University and Top Public University in the Midwest
U.S. News & World Report has named the University of Wisconsin-River Falls a Best Regional University-Midwest, Top Public University-Midwest, and Best Undergraduate Business Program for 2017. UWRF's most recent ranking appears in the U.S. News & World Report's 2017 edition of Best Colleges, released earlier this week.
 
UWRF Student Senate to focus this year on student safety, inclusivity
UW-River Falls Student Senate members recently laid out a list of nine objectives and priorities they hope to accomplish throughout the school year, including a greater focus on policies that improve the safety and well-being of students and becoming a stronger advocate for inclusivity on campus.
 
UW-River Falls celebrates successful comprehensive fundraising campaign
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls celebrated the conclusion of its first ever comprehensive campaign, Rising to Distinction, on September 23 as part of UWRF’s Homecoming and Family Weekend. The five-year campaign was a stellar success with an influx of gifts at the end of 2015 that enabled UWRF to cross the $20 million threshold six months before its anticipated June 30 campaign conclusion.
 
UW-River Falls corpse flower to bloom for the third time
The corpse flower at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls is entering its blooming cycle and estimated to bloom within 7 to 10 days. The corpse flower previously bloomed three years ago in August 2013 and for the first time in October 2010.
 
UW-River Falls environmental science program conducts Kinni Blitz
Environmental science faculty at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls welcomed students back to campus this fall with a unique event – a Kinni Blitz. The Kinni Blitz was a 24-hour effort to measure everything they could think of in the South Fork branch of the Kinnickinnic River that runs through campus.
 
UW-River Falls Homecoming and Family Weekend celebrations set for Sept. 23-25
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will welcome alumni, parents, families, and students to campus September 23-25 for the annual homecoming celebration. The traditional homecoming festivities are combined with the annual Family Weekend event to create one large celebration bringing parents and family members together with alumni and students. The coordinating committee is expecting a large turnout for this event and is excited to showcase the campus and the River Falls community.
 
UW-River Falls named one of best in the Midwest for the 6th consecutive year
For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls has been named one of the best colleges in the Midwest according to the nationally known education services company, The Princeton Review. UW-River Falls is one of 156 institutions in 12 Midwestern states and one of four University of Wisconsin System institutions deemed “Best in the Midwest.”
 
UW-River Falls professor secures third National Science Foundation grant
Jamie Schneider, professor of chemistry and biotechnology at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, was recently awarded a third grant through the National Science Foundation (NSF), serving as the principle investigator on two of them.

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will host a presentation, “The Sound and Story of Brazilian Portuguese,” by visiting University of Minnesota Professor Sophia Beal on Monday, Sept. 26, in the St. Croix Room of the University Center. Beal will speak from 4-5 p.m. with refreshments beginning at 3:30 p.m.
 
UW-River Falls to offer Entrepreneurial Training Program
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls will be offering an Entrepreneurial Training Program beginning Oct. 12 to prepare potential entrepreneurs to start their own business and owners of existing businesses to improve or grow their business.
 
UW-River Falls welcomes the class of 2020 with a Week of Welcome
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will welcome the class of 2020 to campus beginning this weekend. At more than 1,200 students, this is UW-River Falls largest freshman class in five years. The academic year kicks off with the Week of Welcome (WOW) and Move-In Day on Saturday, Sept. 3.
 
Williams Named 2016 Distinguished Teacher at UW-River Falls
Ian Williams, professor of Geology, is the recipient of the 2016 Distinguished Teacher Award at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, the highest award bestowed on campus.
