College of Arts and Sciences

Welcome to the UWRF College of Arts and Sciences Homepage!

It is my honor as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences to welcome you to our college homepage. Thank you for taking a few minutes to explore and learn more about “CAS” (as we like to call it) and the many opportunities that we offer to our diverse students from around the region and world.

In CAS we are dedicated to providing our students with innovative programs and degrees in the fine arts, humanities, languages and literatures, social and behavior sciences, natural sciences, biomedical and health sciences, computer and data science, digital media technologies, pre-engineering, and mathematics – to name a few. For a complete list of our CAS major and minor academic programs, please visit here.

In CAS helping our students prepare for a meaningful life and career after college – not just a job – is at the core of our mission. Our course offerings are broad, but one thing is consistent: we’re committed to developing each of our student’s essential liberal education and life skills. These are the foundational skills that will serve you well no matter where life or your career takes you. We successfully prepare our CAS graduates to:
•    Communicate clearly
•    Think logically, strategically, and creatively
•    Problem-solve systematically
•    Work collaboratively with others
•    Value diversity and inclusion
•    Embody service and leadership.

In CAS we value and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in all that we do. We strive to create a welcoming community grounded in mutual respect and appreciation of individual differences and rich cultural diversity, both from local and global communities. Regardless of your personal values or identities, you will find a home in CAS.

We also embrace the infusion of proven high-impact teaching and learning practices into the educational experiences of each and every student, including but not limited to first-year seminars, study away and study abroad experiences, undergraduate research and creative projects, internships and apprenticeships, academic service-learning projects, and senior capstone experiences. We truly prepare you for success after graduation, whether you plan to go to graduate school or immediately begin your chosen career.

Student Successes

Michelle Stage“...I have received the type of education that does not just prepare you for one type of occupation, but for all types of jobs (even those that haven't been created yet) in an ever-changing job market...."
—Michelle Stage, Psychology and Philosophy

Zach Dwyer“I have grown significantly as a journalist and as a person [while] attending UW-River Falls. The individualized faculty attention…has allowed me to excel in my reporting skills for a future career in media. The collaborative environment within my classes has also made me become better at receiving constructive criticism and utilizing perspectives and expertise.... This will be a key to success…and I’m thrilled to say that I accepted a job in my field prior to graduation from UWRF!”
—Zach Dwyer, Journalism
