The James P. Olson Memorial Scholarship was recently established to provide $3,000 to a UWRF dairy science junior or senior. This scholarship was established by the family of James Olson (1987) in memory of his passion for the dairy industry. He passed away in August 2014. As a student at UWRF, James served as president and vice president of the Dairy Club and after college devoted himself to farming. In 1997, he suffered a water skiing accident that left him unable to farm. Sincere thanks to the family and friends of James Olson for establishing this scholarship in his name. The first recipient of this scholarship was announced at the College Scholarship and Awards Banquet in April – Joseph Tauchen a dairy science major from Cecil.

Congratulations to William Dobson (1959), who received the UWRF Lifetime Achievement Award. Dobson is an emeritus professor of agricultural and applied economics at UW-Madison. He also served as agribusiness economist with the Babcock Institute for International Dairy Research and was a senior staff economist for President Ronald Reagan's Council of Economics Advisors.

The 2015 Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturalist award was presented to Jim Holte. He is a UWRF alum from Elk Mound and is serving his 3rd term as President of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation. He was also recently elected to the American Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors. Holte has an impressive resume of involvement and leadership in Wisconsin agriculture.

AgDay TV featured alumni Tolea Kamm-Peissig (2003) and her husband Jake Peissig (2003). Tolea runs Twisted Rooster Yoga, a yoga studio on their farm next to their dairy barn, for farmers and others in rural Dorchester.

Alumni speakers participated in a panel discussion about transitions in agriculture for the Nilsestuen Legacy Event. Alumni included John Rosenow (1972), Mandy Speerstra (2010), Josh Henning (2014) and Michael Alme (1994)
