Dairy Products Evaluation Team

The Dairy Products Evaluation team at UW-River Falls has participated in Europel and its European Dairy Sensorial Contest as the only U.S. team for the past two years, first in Poland in 2017 and second in the Netherlands in 2018. In 2019, the team is looking forward to participating once again in the Dairy Sensorial Contest in Poligny, France. Europel is the European Association for Dairy Teachers and was founded in 1990.

The aim of the Europel Sensorial Contest for Dairy Products is to find the best evaluator, tasting five samples, three types of cheese, butter and milk. The experience the students receive from attending this event is life-changing, from tasting cheese from around Europe to meeting and networking on a global scale.

At the second Europel contest in May 2018, six UWRF students competed in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. The UWRF team brought home three trophies in the categories of milk and butter. Emily Herness placed 1st in milk and 2nd in butter, and Melody Rex placed 2nd in milk. Read more about their experience.
