Telling Tales is an original production developed by the cast based on traditional folk and fairy tales from around the world. The cast, under the direction of Gorden Hedahl, will create and perform stories for people of all ages that are fun to watch and stimulating to the imagination.

4 p.m. - Film: Uganda Rising
**Warning: Film contains violence and graphic scenes
There is an African proverb that says, “When two elephants fight, it’s the grass that gets injured.” For the children of Northern Uganda, their plight continues. The elephants are many: Kony and the LRA, Yoweri Museveni, racism, colonialism, religious upheaval, the IMF, the UN, the Acholi elders, 9/11, the War On Terror and more. The results have been catastrophic. The movie Uganda Rising addresses the history and current political upheaval in Africa, and specifically Uganda. The Social Justice Series has been designed this year to bring an awareness and understanding of social justice issues within our community. Come and be an ally. The Social Justice Series is sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor, Student Affairs, and Ethnic Studies Minor.

Debra Sanders, R.D., C.D. Dietician at the River Falls Medical Clinic will speak on avoiding weight gain during the holidays by eating healthfully. The Lion's Paw Book Club of the UWRF Chalmer Davee Library will meet Wednesday, Dec.
3rd from 3 to 4 p.m. in the library's 2nd floor breezeway to discuss Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. (2007). The discussion Leader is Yvonne Wilken, Campus Minister of the Journey House Campus Ministry. 5 p.m. - International Traveling Classroom Informational Meeting
The International Traveling Classroom (ITC) 2010 is a study-abroad program that takes you to Europe. You can travel, live, and study in several different locations, such as Paris, London, Berlin, and the Pyrenees. You enroll in UW-RF courses, earning credits towards degree, and at the end of the semester you will travel either independently or in small groups to visit other exciting locations. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply (it’s not too soon to think about spring 2010!) and you can usually apply the courses to general education, liberal arts, or other requirements. 8 p.m. - The Lost Boys of Sudan (Lecture)
Benjamin Ajak was born in 1982 in a village in Southern Sudan.  In 1987, at the age of five, Benjamin's village was attacked and he fled alone into the night.  Benjamin was one of twenty thousand boys, who became known to the world as The Lost Boys, who fled across Africa's largest country. Benjamin's bravery and perseverance through unimaginable injustices and hardships is a testimony to the strength of the human spirit. Co-author of They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky, Benjamin will share with us his extraordinary story of survival. Sponsored by: SEAC and DAC

4 p.m. - Human Rights Day: Effects of and Effective Responses to Torture, Dr. Blake Fry
Every year, hundreds of refugees and asylees who have been victims of government-sponsored torture come to the Twin Cities. Since 1985, the Minneapolis based Center for Victims of Torture has worked to heal the wounds of government-sponsored torture on individuals, their families and their communities, and to stop its practice. Come learn more about the work of the CVT and how you can help put a stop to government-sponsored torture. The Social Justice Series has been designed this year to bring an awareness and understanding of social justice issues within our community. Come and be an ally. Join in the celebration of the Christmas season as the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra collaborates with the Shepherd of the Valley Choir in concert on Sunday, December 14 at 4:00 p.m. Borderline Brass Quintet, Children's Choir and more will enhance this concert complete with audience sing-along of Christmas Carols. Dr. Kristin Tjornehoj will conduct the concert and Michael Norman will serve as narrator with poetry and prose. A freewill offering will be taken, no charge for this

We are very fortunate to have Tim Wise join us with his lecture: Beyond “Diversity”: Challenging Racism in an Age of Backlash. Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and activists in the U.S. He has spoken to over 300,000 people in 48 states, and on over 350 college campuses, including Harvard, Stanford, and the Law Schools at Yale and Columbia.
