Scholarships and Awards

Political Science Department Scholarships

The Department of Political Science offers the following scholarships for political science majors based upon academic record, campus or professional experience, and financial need. All scholarship awards are contingent upon a student meeting eligibility requirements as defined by UW-River Falls Foundation and the Financial Aid office.

Dr. Ray Anderson Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring or minoring in political science. Student must have completed at least six semester hours in political science, must be active in partisan or nonpartisan politics at the national, state or local level or in student government. Preference given to students who are or have been involved in environmental politics.

Robert L. Berg Scholarship is awarded to a student in political science who has completed at least 60 credits with 8 credits in political science, has demonstrated leadership ability, and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Lew Garrison Coit Scholarship is awarded to students who have an outstanding academic record (preferably in government or economic-related courses), demonstrated leadership ability, and satisfactory deportment.

Denis P. Hickey Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a junior in the upper 1/3 of the class who shows evidence of leadership capabilities through active participation in school, church, or community activities, and is making satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree as determined by the academic advisor. The scholarship will be renewed for a second year if eligibility continues.

Dominic Svec Family Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in political science. Preference will be given to a student from the Ellsworth area. Preference will be given to a student who may have given serious consideration to working for the federal or state government in some capacity.

Kenneth S. White Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore or junior political science major pursuing pre-law curriculum. After these curriculum are met, the applicant with the highest GPA should be selected.

Charles and Patricia White Scholarship is awarded to a student in good standing in the College of Arts and Sciences who is pursuing the Pre-Law Curriculum

Richard J. and Maurine K. Brynildsen Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior student with a Political Science major. The student must have an interest in international affairs and be in good academic standing.
