PDP Workshop

NEW SCIENCE TEACHERS!

Would you like help putting together a successful and meaningful Professional Development Plan (PDP)?
Then check out the PDP Workshop July 17-19 at UW-River Falls!

This workshop will offer science teachers in any grade or subject area (first preference to Physics/Physical Science) the opportunity to join a professional learning community established specifically for planning and preparing their PDP.  Master teachers will assist in developing ideas for the PDP including areas for research and inquiry and will also serve on the teacher's PDP advisory committee.

The workshop will meet for a total of 20 hours over a 2.5 day period on the UWRF campus.  Participants will fully develop a plan that meets the requirements of the PDP.  Assistance will be provided to assemble the team required for the PDP that will include a UWRF Professor (Lowell McCann or Earl Blodgett) and a master teacher (Steve Stevenoski, Lincoln HS, Wisconsin Rapids).  Participants will contact their administrative and local team members before departure from the workshop.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) requires teachers licensed after 2004 to complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP) every five years.  Teachers who have completed their first year of teaching must begin the PDP process before October of year two of their teaching careers.  Teachers who received their initial license prior to 2005 can also select to utilize the PDP as their path to re-licensing.  "Writing the Plan- You are required to write a PDP and submit it to a PDP Team for their approval of the goal(s).  You are responsible for initiating this review with the PDP Team.  If you have identified more than one goal in your plan, you must follow Step II, A-E, for each goal."  From the DPI PDP Toolkit.

You will leave the workshop with a completed PDP plan with each identified goal following steps A-E.  You will receive assistance in identifying professional development goals and following the steps for each goal.  After the workshop you will be contacted monthly during the following school year to ensure you are staying on task for a successful review process in year two.  The cost for the workshop is $250 including a signed PDP plan and follow up support.  Housing is available in the UWRF residence halls for $30/night.
