UW-River Falls recognized again as Military Friendly School

March 28, 2024 – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has once again been named a Military Friendly School for the 2024-25 school year, a recognition of the university’s ongoing commitment to providing quality educational opportunities to military members.

UW-River Falls was selected as a silver-level school in the small public institution category for its education support of military veterans for the survey agency Viqtory. More than 1,800 schools took part in the survey, with award winners being selected in gold, silver, and bronze categories.

The repeated high ranking in the survey is evidence of the support UW-River Falls shows its veterans and their families, said Cheryl Grubb, UWRF Veterans Services coordinator. UW-River Falls assists veterans whose military service ranges from active duty, to the National Guard, to GI Bill recipients. It helps them in multiple areas such as financial aid, support services, academic policies and others.

“UW-River Falls is committed to helping military veterans from the moment they begin their studies,” Grubb said. “The university has a robust set of departments and services to help all students succeed, including our military community.”

The Veteran Services Office serves as not only a location where veterans and their families can find assistance, Grubb said, but as a site where they can spend time with other veterans in a dedicated lounge area. Student veterans say sessions with other veterans helps them in numerous ways, she said, and helps them find a sense of belonging.

In addition, the university recently revived its Veterans Club, adding another way for veterans and their families to receive assistance and find their place at UW-River Falls, Grubb said.
