UW-River Falls Students Present Research in State Capitol

March 26, 2012 – Six students from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls recently presented the outcomes of their undergraduate research experiences at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison. The presentations were made on March 7 as part of the ninth annual University of Wisconsin System "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research." The event featured presentations from more than 100 undergraduate students representing campuses throughout the University of Wisconsin System.

The participating UWRF students presented their research to fellow students, faculty mentors, and local dignitaries including state representatives Dean Kundson and Erik Severson, State Senator Sheila Harsdorf, and OEM Fabricators, Inc. president and UW System Board of Regents member Mark Tyler. The students were accompanied on the trip by faculty and administrators from UW-River Falls, including Chancellor Dean Van Galen.

The presenters from UW-River Falls, their faculty advisors and projects were:

Grace Adofoli of River Falls presented "The Socio-cultural Perspective of Distance Learning/ICT Impact on the Development of Ghanaian Women." Advisor is Cyndi Kernahan.

Harmony Hanson of Amery presented "Oral Histories: Creative Writer as Researcher." Advisor is Jennifer Brantley.

Kevin Rixmann of Osceola presented "Modeling and Characterization of Primacy and Cell-Line Derived Artificial Breast Cancer Tissues Produced Using 3D Culture Methods." Advisor is Tim Lyden.

Lucas Rosen of River Falls presented "Mitigating Stormwater Runoff Using Rain Gardens: Nitrogen and Phosphorus Dynamics." Advisor is Holly Dolliver.

Cassandra Saunders of River Falls presented "Incidences of Mammal Admission to an Urban Wildlife Rehabilitation Center." Advisor is John Wheeler.
