Experiential Learning Projects Launched, New Projects Sought at UWRF

Oct. 14, 2011--Twenty-six University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) students recently met with their 11 clients to launch this fall’s experiential learning projects.  Each semester UWRF students enrolled in the Experiential Learning course tackle projects that have been selected from those submitted by businesses and community organizations. 

This fall the projects include drafting a business plan for a group of Hudson residents who want a food cooperative in their neighborhood; creating a map of the proposed drainage ditches in the Pensaukee Drainage District for Rosalie Murphy, chair of the Oconto County Drainage Board; developing an educational campaign on the issue of providing land access to beginning farmers for the Land Stewardship Project, a non-profit organization committed to promoting sustainable agriculture and sustainable communities; and drafting a business plan for a business that would provide jobs to disabled adults for Lou Stuesser of Miles to Ride, LLC, a River Falls enterprise that  provides an equestrian experience for disabled adults.    

After working with UWRF students during the last month, Lou Stuesser of Miles to Ride LLC, commented, “Jim and I are very impressed with your students. It is really exciting to see how they have incorporated our ideas into a structured plan and added ways to accomplish them. We appreciate and admire their efforts so far, and so quickly.”
