I am a Business Administration, Management, Marketing, or Finance major. What prerequisites must be completed before I take an internship in Management, Marketing, or Finance?

How many internship credits can be used as electives in my major?

A maximum of three credits can be used as electives in your major. If you apply for more than three credits, the additional credits are applied to your general electives. See Internship Credit.

How many credits do I need to earn before I consider taking an internship?

60 credits. You must also complete all course-related prerequisites in your field. See Internship Prerequisites.

How do I find an internship?

Internships for CBE students are posted on the Internship Bulletin Board located in South Hall. These opportunities are also emailed to junior and senior majors of CBE, with more than 60 credits, who have not opted out of internship email notifications. You can also find internships by searching the career pages of company websites or by utilizing job search engines such as Indeed.com or Internships.com

I am an Economics major. How do I find an internship when so few internships are labeled specifically for my major?

Most internship descriptions that list Business Administration as a preferred major will hire Economics graduates. Economics is broad field, so request any internship descriptions that sound interesting

Can my current job be considered an internship?

Yes it can, if there are additional duties that can be added to the job so that it can be considered a learning experience.

How many hours do I need to work at an internship to earn one credit?

You must work 40-45 hours to earn one credit. See Internship Credit.

After how many hours of work must I submit a report?

An intern must submit a periodic report after 40-45 hours of work, and for every 40-45 hours completed thereafter. See Internship Process.

What forms, paperwork, and documents do I need completed in order to pursue and complete an internship?

After submitting your internship application, you will need to submit a detailed job description from your employer, your current DAR, and a cover letter (how will this internship help your career goals). During your internship, you will need to submit a report after every 40-45 hours worked, and the department chair will visit the site of your internship and talk with your supervisor and you (the intern). After your internship, your employer will need to fill out the Employer’s Intern Evaluation Form. Once the internship is completed, you will need to submit an internship final report. How many pages is the internship final report supposed to be?

In most cases, an intern will submit a 2-3 page final report at the completion of an internship. (A 12-credit internship may require a longer report.) See Internship Process.

Do I need to have my faculty internship supervisor meet with my employer?

Yes, in almost all cases the faculty internship supervisor will visit with you and your employer during a site visit. Internship site ‘visits’ may involve Skype, email, or other technology solutions, depending upon distance and availability.

Can my internship be in another state or country?

Yes. During the summer of 2013 we had two internships in China, one internship in New Zealand, and one internship in Missouri.

I have already completed what my employer labeled as an internship; can I receive course credit for this?

Academic internships for credit must be approved and completed in the current semester, not a previous semester.
