Many students live with medical, physical, sensory, or brain related issues that significantly challenge the ability to pursue a college education. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that can apply to those circumstances. According to ADA, those kinds of issues may be considered a "disability" if they substantially limit the ability to pursue an education.
ADA can allow these students alternative ways to participate in the learning, working, and living opportunities at UWRF. The alternative methods are often called accommodations. For instance, if a medical, physical, sensory, or brain issue substantially limits the ability to write good lecture notes, the office can provide students with copies of notes. It's important to understand the goal is not the creation of successful outcomes. The objective is to ensure there can be equal access and opportunities.
