COVID-19 Updates

Face coverings will no longer be required in indoor settings March 11 at the end of the day.

The following message was sent out to all UWRF employees and students on 2/16:

Our current COVID-19 operations policy AP-01-128, which was set to expire on Sunday, Feb. 20, will be extended through March 11 to provide consistency until spring break. Effective at the end of day March 11, masks will no longer be required in indoor settings.

The following message was sent to all UWRF employees on 12/22:

Wearing of Face Coverings in the Classroom:

We recognize that one of the greatest challenges faculty and instructional staff have dealt with is the issue of non-compliance with the wearing of face coverings in the classroom. In an effort to simplify this policy and reduce confusion, there will no longer be a six-foot spacing exemption to this policy.  All individuals will be required to wear face coverings in any indoor space when others are present.  This change will be included in our updated COVID-19 protocols for spring semester.  In addition, instructors may choose to implement a “limited food and/or drink” policy in their classrooms to combat situations where students remove face coverings for an extended period to eat or drink.

This university-wide policy change now mirrors the Falcon Center policy that has been in place since August not allowing removal of face-coverings when six (6) feet of physical distance is possible.

Effective, Sunday, Aug. 22, UW-River Falls will be requiring face coverings in all indoor public spaces on campus property where physical distancing of six (6) feet is not possible, regardless of vaccination status. This will be in effect until case numbers return to lower levels – and we will let you know as soon as it is safe to make that policy change.  The full UWRF policy can be found here.

Thank you for your patience as we work through these challenging times.  Email covid19@uwrf.edu if questions regarding the policy at UWRF.

Comments or questions on how this will impact Campus Recreation programs at the Falcon Center may be sent to campusrec@uwrf.edu

On July 27th, the CDC issued updated public health recommendations in which they recommend all people, including fully vaccinated people, wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high-level transmission.  As Pierce County has reached the substantial COVID-19 transmission rate, we are now expecting all individuals, including those who are fully vaccinated, to wear a mask while indoors.

This change will be in effect until further notice.  The full UWRF policy can be found here.

We look forward to a return to the full college experience this fall.  Thank you for your patience as we work through these challenging times.  Comments or questions regarding this policy as it directly relates to the impact for Campus Recreation programs at the Falcon Center may be sent to campusrec@uwrf.edu.

Starting Monday, May 10, 2021:

Fitness Center and Climbing Wall - memberships and day passes will be available for purchase to community members, visiting students, alumni, veterans, and seniors. If you had a community membership on March 16, 2020 and have not cancelled it, your membership will automatically restart on May 17, 2021. From our reopen date of May 10, 2021 through May 16, 2021, you will have free access. Please see information below for more details about your membership. If you have questions about your membership please feel free to reach out at campusrec@uwrf.edu.

  • Recurring Memberships - If you were on recurring billing prior to March 16, 2020, you have been charged $0.01 every deduction date since the closure to keep your membership active in the system. On May 17, 2021, Campus Recreation will resume regular deductions; however, you may regain access to the Falcon Center Fitness Center and Falcon Outdoor Adventures (based on previous membership) starting on Monday, May 10, 2021.
    • Due to unique memberships with different recurring billing dates, Campus Recreation will restart recurring billing charges on Monday, May 17, 2021.  For example, if you are normally billed on the 5th of each month, your credit card will not be charged until Saturday, June 5, 2021 with access to the facility from Monday, May 10, 2021 through Sunday, May 16, 2021 for FREE. From Monday, May 17, 2021 through Friday, June 4, 2021, you are receiving dates that were owed from your membership getting cut short in March/April 2020 due to the pandemic.
  • Monthly Memberships - Your membership was put on hold during the closure and all unused days were stored. From Monday, May 10, 2021 through Sunday, May 16, 2021, all returning monthly members will have FREE access to the Falcon Center Fitness Center and Falcon Outdoor Adventures (based on previous membership). Starting on Monday, May 17, 2021, any stored dates will be credited until all days are used.
    • Due to unique membership start dates, it is possible a member could have 1 stored day from March/April 2020 giving them access on Monday, May 17, 2021. Others may have up to 21 stored days giving them access until Sunday, June 6, 2021.

Knowles Walk/Jog Membership

Community members now have the option to use the Knowles Field House Indoor Track from 7am-2pm Monday-Friday.  We offer $5 day passes, $30 monthly memberships, or a $50 family monthly membership.  This is a limited time offer and does not include any court sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball, or the batting cages.  All passes and monthly memberships must be purchased in-person at the Falcon Center Fitness Center Desk.

Knowles will close in early May due to Athletic Camps and Clinics; therefore, we are only offering single term memberships.  Recurring billing and parking passes are not available.  Daily parking is available in Pay3 South of the Falcon Center.  Please follow instructions at the meter.

We are following all safety protocols required from the university, county, and state to help keep you healthy and safe.

Recurring Members

If you had a Knowles Field House recurring membership on March 15th, 2020, we are still holding your credit. The Knowles Field House membership that you are used to is much different than this Walk/Jog Membership, so it would be very difficult to allow credit at this time.  We hope to fully reopen, including court sports and evening hours, in the fall when those memberships will be redeemed.

COVID-19 UPDATES:

On March 16, 2020, the UW-River Falls Campus Recreation department was forced to close all Falcon Center facilities, suspended all memberships, and end all in-person student, faculty, staff, and community programs because of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

On Monday, August 24, 2020, UW-River Falls Campus Recreation was approved to reopen the UW-River Falls Falcon Center with some student, faculty, and staff programming in the first phase of a reopening plan based on very strict restrictions from the university, Pierce County, and the State of Wisconsin. Fortunately, many of the precautions that were implemented have been successful.

We are excited to announce the next phase of the reopening plan has been approved which allows UW-River Falls Campus Recreation to begin the process of reopening portions of our programs to the community. Phase 2 is not a complete reopening to the public; however, it does allow additional offerings and begins allowing community back inside the UW-River Falls Falcon Center.

Below is a list of the Phase 2 program offerings and links on where to find more information:

  • Falcon Outdoor Adventures Rental Center is now open to the community!  Rent cross country skis, snowshoes, sleds, and more. To avoid crowds in the Rental Center, we are asking all customers to reserve your rental time by using this link.
  • Falcon Outdoor Adventures Learn-to-Climb Programs will return this summer. Registration and more information can be found here.
  • Falcon Outdoor Adventures Climbing Wall is now taking reservations for private small group events and birthday parties for groups with 10 or fewer people. More information can be found here.
  • Open Skate at Hunt Arena will return for community members on Sunday afternoons from 1:00pm-2:30pm. Due to capacity restrictions, all participants must pre-register. More information and the registration link can be found here.
  • Pro's Ice private skating sessions will run on Sundays from 10:30am-12:30pm from February 21-March 14. For more information, visit this link or contact HASS@uwrf.edu.
  • Walk/Jog in the Knowles Field House will reopen to community from 7:00am-2:00pm on weekdays. This does not include any court sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball, or the batting cages. More information can be found here.
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications ran through the American Red Cross will again be offered to community members in a blended-learning format with strict COVID-19 policy guidelines. More information and the registration link can be found here.

UW-River Falls Campus Recreation is still monitoring university, Pierce County, and the State of Wisconsin regulations regarding reopening more programs and facilities. Until then, all other Campus Recreation programs are only open to UWRF students, faculty, and staff. This includes open recreation in the fitness center, climbing wall, and evenings inside the field house.

Due to physical distancing guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic, we require all users to make a reservation through the Campus Rec app or online at recreation.uwrf.edu to better track the different capacity limits inside the Falcon Center Fitness Center/Auxiliary Gym, Falcon Outdoor Adventures Climbing Wall, Knowles Field House, and Hunt Arena Open Skate. All reservations can be made up to one week prior to the activity date/time.

We are hopeful the Phase 3 program offering will come mid-May when the student population lowers on-campus. Thank you for your patience. If you have question, please reach out to us at campusrec@uwrf.edu.

Community Offerings:  All Campus Recreation community programs are suspended indefinitely.  This includes Learn to Skate, Learn to Climb, Open Skating, Open Hockey, FOA Rental Center, Birthday Parties, American Red Cross Certifications, and Open Recreation opportunities in the Falcon Center Fitness Center, Knowles Field House and FOA Climbing Wall.

Please continue to check back for updates or email campusrec@uwrf.edu for more information.

The Campus Recreation staff has been busy planning for a safe return to the gym for its users.  We are fully committed to the health, well-being and safety of all students, faculty, staff and community members that choose to work out with us.  This commitment is reflected by the many updates and modifications the staff has planned in preparation of reopening the facility and programs.  Although state orders and local public health expectations may change with the circumstances, Campus Recreation’s dedication and commitment does not waver.

The Falcon Center will open its doors once again this fall welcoming new students, returning students, and staff to campus.  Considering all available information, the decision was made to reopen the Fitness Center and Falcon Outdoor Adventures on August 24th to UWRF students, faculty, and staff only.  Campus leadership, in conjunction with Pierce County Public Health, have made the decision to suspend all Campus Recreation community programs until the beginning of January 2021, including all Learn to Skate, Learn to Climb, Open Skating, Open Hockey, FOA Rental Center, and recreation opportunities in the Knowles Field House and FOA Climbing Wall.

We understand this news may be frustrating for many members but ask for your continued patience and flexibility during this uncertain time. We will continue to evaluate the impact of having students back to campus with limited classes, activities and space during this semester before welcoming back our community members. Simultaneously, the decision to reopen to the public will hinge on case trajectory, the availability of testing, and the COVID-19 activity level in Pierce County.

The Campus Recreation staff will communicate any new decisions that are made related to a January 2021 community reopening.  Until that time, the Fitness Center staff will continue to maintain your membership status by extending all monthly recurring memberships for one penny/month as it has done since mid-March unless we hear otherwise.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to email us at campusrec@uwrf.edu.  More updates can be found on the UWRF website and on our social media accounts (Facebook / Instagram).  We look forward to having everyone back as soon as it can be accomplished safely. Thank you for your continued support of UWRF, the Falcon Center and Campus Recreation.

On Thursday, July 30th, Gov. Tony Evers issued a statewide mandate requiring all Wisconsin residents to wear face masks while indoors through the end of September. See the full story here.

Campus Recreation Professional Staff have been working all summer on new policies, facility updates, and specialized programming to meet the new mandates and recommendations from health experts. This new mandate will be taken into consideration as the staff prepare for the beginning of the academic year. At this time, there is no definite timeline for opening the Fitness Center.

Please keep in mind that this situation is constantly evolving. More information will continue to be posted at www.uwrf.edu/campusrec and on our social media outlets as it becomes available. For more campus-wide information, please visit go.uwrf.edu/covid19.

On May 13, the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned the state’s Safer at Home order. Although this order is no longer in place, COVID-19 remains a serious public health concern. We appreciate your patience during this period of closure and want to ensure you that we are working towards a safe and effective way to reopen the Campus Recreation programs and recreational opportunities at the Falcon Center.

Campus Recreation is currently working on a plan to open the Fitness Center in a phased approach. Once a plan to open the facility is approved, the Campus Recreation staff will share it via its website, email and various social media outlets. A reopening of the Falcon Center will follow safety guidelines from the CDC, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and Pierce County Public Health and incorporate best practices in the health and fitness industry to reduce the spread of disease.

We understand the positive benefits that exercise contributes to your health and wellbeing and look forward to a safe return for everyone. Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this challenging time. Be well.
