Steven Meads

I have been working at the University since 2008.  I have lived south of town on County Road FF since 2007 with my wife and three children.  I grew up in South Minneapolis and my wife in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin.  I am very much a product of South Minneapolis.  I graduated with 1500 students from South High School in 1989.  I then moved to Telluride Colorado for a number of years.  Following Telluride I ended up in Eugene, Oregon for another 4 years.  Eventually settling back in Minneapolis where I met my wife, bought a house, finished school, had our oldest son and started working at Boarman, Kroos and Vogel, a local Minneapolis-based architectural firm as their systems administrator.  We then sold our house and traded the city life for a small hobby farm in River Falls.

Following the move to River Falls I began looking for work closer to home.  I was lucky enough to find the job here at the University.  It was at this point when I realized how rewarding a career can be.  I thoroughly enjoy working with the students.  Right now I manage approximately 50 students in three areas.  The Technology Services Call Center, our computer labs, and our tech repair shop.  I often explain the job as similar to "being in college" without the papers or exams.  I truly believe I've found a good fit within a technical organization which allows me the freedom to be creative.  At the end of the day I'm granted the satisfaction of watching the students mature and launch into life.  I take great pride in maintaining the relationships I build long after the students graduate.

I am honored to be a part of the Classified Staff Advisory Committee and look forward to working with my peers to better the experience for other classified employees and the university in general.
