Graduate Student Internship (GSI) Program

In partnership with the UW-La Crosse Student Affairs Administration (SAA) graduate program.

About the Program

We believe the UWRF Graduate Student Internship program and the partnership developed with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Student Affairs Administration Master's Degree Program offers excellent educational and practical experiences that will support a successful future career in Student Affairs and Higher Education. This blended program offers both online and in-person classes on the UWRF campus, an on-campus cohort of classmates and colleagues, and one-on-one contact with advisors and supervisors. Graduate Students Interns have practical work experiences that are directly connected to coursework and future career plans.

We are looking for a new 2017-2019 cohort of Graduate Student Interns who are excited to be part of our program and who are ready and willing to step into new experiences and learn from them.

Check out our virtual information sessions!

We are offering three different virtual information sessions on Tuesday, February 21st, for anyone who is interested in learning more about the academic partnership program that UW-River Falls has with UW-La Crosse. We will be showcasing the River Falls community, our university, the academic program, and  a couple current students will share about their experiences.

Recruitment & Selection Process

Our recruitment and selection process has been structured to allow us to get to know the candidates, but also for the candidates to get to know more about this program and what we have to offer. Here is a summary of our process:

January 1 - February 26, 2017: Introductory Interviews

Introductory interviews with qualified applicants will take place at the Oshkosh Placement Exchange (OPE) and via telecommunications for applicants not attending OPE. These introductory interviews will give applicants an opportunity to learn more about the varied and unique learning and working opportunities offered at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and for us to get to know more about the applicants' qualifications.

March 6, 2017: Interest Forms Due from Candidates

Applicants will be notified prior to March 6 of their candidacy status. Those selected to continue in the process will be asked to complete an interest form that identifies the particular GSI positions in which they are interested.

March 7 - 16, 2017: Graduate Student Internship Position Interviews

UWRF GSI sponsoring departments will schedule interviews via telecommunication with candidates who have expressed interest in their specific GSI positions. It is likely that candidates who express interest in more than one GSI position will be offered multiple interviews. During these interviews time will be allowed for candidates to ask more questions about the specific GSI position for which they are interviewing.

March 17, 2017: GSI Position Ranking Forms Due from Candidates

Candidates will be given a final opportunity to submit their continued interest and rank the GSI positions in their order of interest.

March 27, 2017: GSI Offers and Placement

Candidates will be notified by this date regarding their candidacy status. Those receiving offers will also be notified of their GSI placement.

April 15, 2017: Deadline for Candidate Decisions

Candidates who have been offered a GSI position are asked to reply to the offer no later than this date.
