History of Chapter 247

A core group of faculty sought to form a Phi Kappa Phi Chapter at UW-River Falls in 1987.  In approving the establishment of Chapter 247 on February 8, 1988, Phi Kappa Phi recognized our institution's commitment to adhere to the values and principles of Phi Kappa Phi, the excellence of our faculty and staff, the diversity of disciplines in both liberal education and professional programs, and our desire to recognize the academic excellence of our students.

The founding members of Phi Kappa Phi include R. Michael Barrett, Mark Bergland, Richard Brynildsen, Robert Butler, Paulette Chaffin, Dennis Cooper, William Carlson, Terry Ferriss, Patricia Karnowski, Lanny Neel, John Nierengarten, James Shatava, Gary Thibodeau, Robert Beck, and Lynn Jermal.

UW-River Falls has inducted over a thousand outstanding students, faculty, and staff into Phi Kappa Phi since 1988, recognizing excellence and promoting the love of learning across all disciplines and departments at the University.
