Application Process

See if you qualify as a McNair Scholar by answering the following:

1. Are you interested in pursuing a Research-Based degree (typically a Ph.D., but other degrees may qualify: M.A./M.S., M.F.A., J.D./Ph.D., etc.)
   • Yes, proceed to question two
   • I am not sure. Please feel free to contact the UW-River Falls McNair Program staff to discuss your academic and career plans
   • No, proceed to question nine
2. Is your cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher?
   • Yes, proceed to question three 
   • No, proceed to question nine
3. At the end of this Academic Year, will you have completed at least 45 credits?
   • Yes, proceed to question four
   • No, proceed to question nine
4. Do you have at least two full academic years remaining in your undergraduate program?
   • Yes, proceed to question five
   • No, proceed to question nine
5. Are you a First-Generation student? See First-Generation guidelines.
   • Yes, proceed to question six
   • No, proceed to question seven
6. Do you come from a Low-Income background? See Low-Income guidelines.
   • Yes, proceed to question eight
   • No, proceed to question seven
7. Are you a member of a racially or ethnically underrepresented group? See racially or ethnically underrepresented group guidelines.
   • Yes, proceed to question eight
   • No, proceed to question nine
8. Congratulations! You appear to qualify for the McNair Program. If you have any other questions, please contact us at mcnair.scholars.program@uwrf.edu or stop in the McNair Program office, 216 Rodli Hall. If you have no further questions or concerns, apply now!
9. Currently, you do not appear to qualify for the McNair Program. Please visit our office in 216 Rodli Hall if you have any questions or wish to discuss your individual situation.

Once you have filled out the online application, a McNair Program staff member will reach out to let you know if you are eligible. If you are, we will let you know the next steps, which include an in-person interview and letters of recommendation.
