The Aspire Program is designed to help first-year students transition to and find support and success in the UWRF community.

To be eligible to participate in the program, applicants must be first-year students AND meet one of the three requirements:

  1. Identify as low-income (defined as those who are eligible to receive Pell Grants)
  2. Identify as a first-generation student (meaning you are the first in your family to go to college)
  3. Identify as an individual from a multicultural background

Aspire Mentors 2019-20

 

Apply to be a Peer Mentor


Aspire Program Peer Mentors are student leaders who represent the Center of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. As effective role models, peer leaders also guide first-year students as they experience living, growing, and succeeding in the UW-River Falls community. ***Applications open February 1, 2020

Mission: Provide support, advice, and referral to mentees

  • Recognize, accept, and demonstrate a personal interest in each mentee
  • Have knowledge of campus resources and refer students accordingly
  • Provide open and honest dialogue regarding student life at UWRF
  • Consult with students on academic rules and regulations and on academic adjustment skills
  • Assist in the cultural development of each mentee as needed or requested
  • Help mentees recognize problem areas and provide guidance toward resolution
  • Participate in Move in day, Falcon Preview days/ Resource Fairs, Campus Visit Days, mentor and mentee recruitment processes. 

Administrative Duties:

  • Attend mandatory training sessions
  • Be present at monthly mentor and mentee group meetings
  • Participate in bi-weekly individual meetings with Aspire Coordinator
  • Submit documentation of hours worked to Aspire Coordinator and Human Resources

Eligibility (Required):

  • Rising sophomore, junior, and senior students interested in working with first-year students
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Enrolled as a full-time students with a maximum of 18 undergraduate credits or 12 graduate credits per semester during the period of employment.
  • Must be available Monday afternoons between 4:00 - 5:00pm for staff meetings.

Eligibility (Preferred):

  • Living on campus
  • Active within the UW-River Falls community
  • Not planning to study abroad during the Spring 2020 semester
  • Not graduating in December 2019
