Why did you choose to come to River Falls?
Everyone here at River Falls is so friendly, I have met some of my closest friends here. For me, River Falls is the perfect campus size, specially the class size. I can have a great connection with my professors, who are will and wanting to see students succeed.
What have you been involved with during your time here and why did you choose to get involved?
During my freshmen year I got involved in the Aspire program and Student Support Services (SSS). I choose these two programs specially because I am a First-Generation student and didn’t know what to expect coming to college, these two programs are specially made to help students who need that extra support and that’s what I loved about it. I am still active in SSS and am now on my second year as an Aspire Mentor.
I also started getting involved in the Latinx Student Organization (LSO) my sophomore year. Being in a campus which doesn’t have much diversity, I wanted to have a connection with others who have a similar background as I do and get to learn more about the Hispanic culture. Sometimes it does feel weird being the only minority in my classes but knowing that there is a place where I can be myself, speak Spanish with others, listen to the same music and just have an amazing time spreading and learning about my culture. I became the President of LSO the beginning of my Junior year and this gives me a great privilege because now I can share what I’ve learned from LSO thus far and continue to grow as a Latinx community.
What do you like most about being a student at UWRF and being a part of CDIB?
What I like most about being a student at UWRF is just the campus in general. I was always a shy person in high school, but UWRF felt so much like home and I was able to be comfortable expressing who I am. I have grown so much being at UWRF and I believe a big part of that came from being a part of CDIBs. When you’re in class or walking across campus you don’t see much diversity, when you walk into an event hosted my CDIBs you see this whole other side, you see different ethnicities and backgrounds all in one place and for me

What advice would you give current students?
Think about what you are currently doing, and ask yourself are you were you want to be, if it’s yes what the next step to further develop yourself? If you’re not where you want to be think about why not and a plan. You have made it so far already, keep surprising yourself because that is what’s going to keep you motivated. It’s what keeps me motivated those little surprises and learning what I am capable of.
What advice or suggestions would you give to future students?
My advice would be to get involved on campus and find a group of friends that will be your study buddies, but also your fun group. College is supposed to be a fun experience, not a serious moment all the time. Don’t stress yourself out, just try your very best because yes, your best is good enough. Believe you can and you will accomplish so much. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, that is how you will find your true path.

I noticed many of my peers and people of color were only staying here for one semester or two and then transferring or dropping out, and I wanted to change that, so I got involved and did something about it.

What do you like most about being a student at UWRF and being a part of D.I.B?
What I enjoy most about being a student at UWRF is the close bonds you can have with your professors. Due to the smaller class capacity and the smaller campus size, it gives you the chance to develop relationships with your professors, coaches, and mentors. What advice or suggestions would you give to future students?
Some suggestions or advice I have for future college students are that it is okay to be at your own pace. There are others who are in the same boat and are just as confused and are exploring just like you.
