The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University of Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin. The Office of Institutional Research (IR Office) provides management information and analytical support to UWRF's decision makers to aid in strategic planning, internal decision making and external accountability. Through collaborative leadership and guidance, the Office provides a broad range of analysis, planning, research and assessment activities, including those that support internal and external data analysis, student learning outcomes assessment, department/program review and institutional and specialized accreditation.

The Position: The Research Analyst must be a team-player who works closely with the Director of Institutional Research and student workers to support the collection, analysis, management and reporting of key university information used in strategic planning, decision making, and other purposes. The Research Analyst is responsible for responding to data requests; assisting in the collection of data from a variety of sources; documenting and clarifying data flow; organizing, cleaning and cross-checking data;and conducting simple data analyses and preparing reports.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Supports collection, management, and reporting of key university information by documenting and clarifying data flow;organizing, cleaning and cross-checking data; and conducting simple data analyses and preparing reports.
  • Researches, gathers, refines and analyzes data about various aspects of the institution in support of information and research needs for planning and policy making decisions exhibiting careful understanding of the data
  • Creates and generates reports of the highest quality and accuracy
  • Suggests and implements ways to streamline and simplify procedures for increased efficiency and accuracy
  • Participates in the distribution of surveys, analysis or the responses and compilation and dissemination of results.
  • Develops and maintains information systems to store, manage, and retrieve data related to all aspects of higher education
  • Maintaining the IR website
  • Contributing to the overall effectiveness of Institutional Research by performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor's Degree – preferred fields include social sciences, mathematics/statistics, and computer science. (Master's degree considered an asset) and one year experience in related field. Or no degree and 3 years work experience in a related field.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate information in numerical and narrative form
  • Familiarity with relational databases and query tools. Hyperion (Brio), PeopleSoft, Oracle, Access is a plus 
  • Good analytical and strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and ability to relate to a variety of individuals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Intermediate word processes, spreadsheet, and presentation software experience (MS Office preferred).
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations and ability to contribute to the University's commitment to enhancing student awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with state and federal higher education agencies
  • Proficient with SPSS or other statistical software
  • Experience working with relational databases, data warehousing, SQL/SQR
  • Experience working productively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
