UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls
Scott Nelson, from Bloomer, WI, was a Geography major in the 1970s. He received his degree in May 1976 and shortly after, he joined the Western Slope Fire Center to fight the many forest fires that plagued the western states that summer. With flames surrounding them, several firefighters jumped into a lake to allow the flames to pass over them. Sadly, there was not enough oxygen left for them to survive, and three died, including Scott. The Scott Nelson Fund was established to fund activities of the Student Geography Organization and the department that benefit our students. Contributions to this account may be used to help fund events, correspondence and activities for Geography students and alumni.
