UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls
It’s hard to believe that we’re already well in the second month of the academic year! By now you’ve discovered a lot about yourself and UWRF.
One of the coolest things is how easy it is to get involved on campus.
You might have initially come to UWRF hesitant to join clubs, or maybe you’re ready to hit up EVERY ORGANIZATION YOU CAN! Whichever boat you may be sailing in, we think you’ll be surprised by how much UWRF truly has available to you.
Involvement at UWRF (clubs and organizations, intramural sports, volunteerism, campus jobs, campus-wide events, etc.) feels very natural, and this is all thanks to the wonderful staff in the Office of Student Involvement.
Student Involvement puts on loads of events and activities throughout the semester such as Open Mic Nights, Bingo, Karaoke, and Trivia Nights. They also host the super awesome Homecoming activities happening this week.
Throughout the semester you can also find events put on by student orgs. These are extra special because the types of events hosted are so diverse, and our student leaders work hard to make each event incredible!
Some amazing campus events include African Night (Black Student Union), the International Bazaar (Asian American Association), the annual Yule Ball (Muggles United), and the Drag Show (Gender & Sexuality Alliance) offered each semester.
We encourage you to find at least one org that sounds interesting and check out a few meetings to see what they are all about. You may just find a new passion here on campus!
Now that you’re into the semester, you might be finding that you could use some help with your studies.
We are very proud of the numerous academic resources available to students and we want to make sure that you succeed in your classes, first and foremost.
Tutoring services, which are part of the Academic Success Center located in the basement of Davee Library, are free for all students. UWRF utilizes a peer-to-peer based tutoring system so you’ll be paired with another student who excels in the subject you want tutoring in. There are also help labs for chemistry and physics (both in Centennial Science Hall), math (first floor of North Hall) and writing (second floor of Kleinpell Fine Arts).
If you need accommodations in classes such as extended test taking time, a note taker, and audio textbooks, contact the Ability Services Office in Hagestad Hall and they will work with you to make sure your needs are being met.
If you are an exploratory major or would like to learn new study skills, the Academic Success Center on the ground floor of Davee Library will support you and provide guidance with your classes.
If you are looking to make connections based on your identity, belief system, culture, or values, the Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (CDIB), located in the Involvement Center in the UC, provides all kinds of support and programming to help you make the most of your time here at UWRF.
College is fun. That’s the truth, and you’ll learn it on your own, but it can also be challenging (especially as you just get started) to balance the social and academic aspects of your life.
There are many resources on campus to support you in each of those aspects and if you aren’t sure where to go, all you need to do is reach out and ask.
We are confident that you are going to rock your time here. Make the most of every experience and get ready to be INVOLVED with our campus community!
