Own Your Midterms This Semester

Students Studying on Lawn

Midterms are coming—head for the hills! Or, better yet, head to the Student Success Center!

Midterms can be scary and with so much going on it can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to. Whether your midterms consist of tests, papers, projects, or a mixture of each of these things, there are resources here on campus that can help you have a positive experience with your midterms, and with invoking as little stress as possible!

Did you know that UWRF has nine tutoring centers on campus that are open all throughout the week? Our tutoring centers have excellent tutors who, like your professors, want to see you succeed, and have been successful in the very classes you are taking. There are Tutoring Centers for courses in each of the four colleges and focus on courses like Chemistry, Biology, Math, Composition, and more. In fact, there is a General Skills Center that can assist in preparing some standard practices for success in your courses. Not only can these tutors help with studying for classes, but they can assist you in homework that you may be having difficulties with. If you can’t find a tutor for course, you can contact the Student Success Center to request a one-on-one tutor to meet your specific needs.

We all know that studying plays a big role in helping you prepare for that midterm, but if you feel you are continuing to really struggle after working hard to understand a concept, consider reaching out to your professor. Check in after class, email them, or make an appointment for their office hours to discuss what you may be struggling with. Your professors want you to succeed and will help you overcome your challenges. Sometimes a little bit of additional clarification or explanation of a concept can make a whole world of distance. Plus, it never hurts to demonstrate that you are putting in the effort to learn when concepts get tough.

Reaching out for help can seem daunting, especially if you don’t know how or where to go to find the help you are seeking. Contacting your professor can be as straight forward as an email or talking to them in their office hours. Getting a tutor can be done by scheduling appointments on TutorTrac and setting up what time works best for you.

Students Studying in the Library

If all you're looking for is a spot to work and study in peace, check out the library! The library is a great place to study for your midterms both alone and with peers. In addition to having open sections dedicated to quiet work, the library offers private study rooms that students are able to use if they need their own separate area to study.

Classes can be challenging and you might have to work harder than you originally planned on some assignments, but if you want to do well and you’re willing to put in the effort, you will CRUSH your midterms and projects! Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help when you need it, and don’t wait until you get a grade you’re not pleased with to try and improve your understanding in class. From all of us in NSFP, we’re rooting for you! You’ve got this!
