Consider Your Summer Opportunities

Involvement Center 2

Though the semester has only just begun, it’s never too early to start thinking about what your plans are for the summer. In fact, now is a great time to start thinking and planning to make sure you explore all the opportunities available to you. Something to consider when planning for summer is whether you would like to explore a summer job or internship.

Summer jobs and internships can really help set you up with some great invaluable experiences and references in the field you are studying and opportunities are available for you to look into right here on campus. Each college has an internship board within their main academic building with opportunities available broken down by major. If this doesn’t give you any leads, another good resource to contact is your adviser. Advisers are professionals currently working in your field and have contacts they can connect you with. They can also help you find external opportunities. As for jobs, if you aren’t sure what direction to go, be sure to stop by the Career Fair on February 20, put on by Career Services. Career Services is an excellent resource to look into regarding your career path and future jobs. All the services they offer are free for students, even after you graduate, so you always have them as a support.

Are you concerned about graduating in the timeframe you would like or interested in getting some credits knocked out? Summer courses are a great way to keep your credits under control. There are a variety of courses offered, both major-specific and general education, so there’s bound to be lots of options for classes to take. Courses are accelerated, and in-person courses usually meet 4-6 hours a day, though some are available online. Be sure to check out the options available listed on eSIS when the listings are posted!

Summer is also a great time to consider exploring opportunities to study abroad. Although it may be a little late to find one for this summer, you can start looking at options for next year. The Office of International Education has a variety of destinations and trip lengths available to consider! Did you know that UWRF students are twice as likely to study abroad as an undergrad as their peers are nationally? With many options to choose from to fit your interests and also help fulfill your graduation requirements, it’s no wonder that so many UWRF students participate. Keep an eye out for the posters advertising the various trips offered or visit the Office of International Education located in Hagestad Hall to get started on planning your trip!
