Academic Connections

Student studying in the Involvement Center

You’ve made it through your first month at UWRF! We imagine your excitement and nerves are still fresh, and in the midst of it all, you have only just begun your academic journey. With all of the fun campus events, activities, and beautiful fall weather, it can be hard to focus on school. Once you start feeling more comfortable and adjust to your new schedule, it will be easier to balance all of your different priorities.

With mid-terms approaching, it is normal to start to feel academic pressure. It’s important to take your tests and assignments seriously. If you are concerned about your academic performance, there are plenty of campus resources available to assist you, like the Academic Success Center. Did you know that the Academic Success Center houses our Tutoring Center, offering FREE tutoring services across all colleges?

On top of the many student services available on campus, we cannot emphasize enough the importance of connecting and getting to know your professors. If you have concerns, questions, or you are loving the course content – let your professor know. Too often new students are too intimidated to talk to their professors, but we promise that a little bravery can go a long way. Professors can serve as mentors and helpful resources in your academic success, can introduce you to new opportunities, and so much more.

One easy way to get to know your professors is by using your Out to Lunch card (You know, that card you received during the Week of Welcome in your “Proud to Be a Falcon” folder)! All you have to do is ask one of your professors to lunch, bring the Out to Lunch card you received to Riverside Commons, and your professor’s meal is on us!

Professors at UWRF care about their students, and will invest in your academic, professional, and personal growth. But for this to happen, you need to open yourself up to them and share your story.
