Research Interests:

My research interests are focused on the relation between high latitude soil development and carbon sequestration rates, especially in regards to land that has been recently exposed by glacial retreat. In both the Antarctic and Arctic I monitor active layer thermodynamics and relate variations to changing soil and atmospheric environments. Around Wisconsin and Minnesota I am interested in determining soil development and carbon sequestration rates where wetlands have recently been restored. Additionally, I work with landowners to try to develop practices and strategies to reduce soil and nutrient loss from properties. Related to this, I also examine how these practice changes alter soil physical and chemical environments.
