- Call to order.
- Chair report.
- The Deloitte report was published last week. To me, it looks like a summary with little data yet very far-reaching conclusions. The final recommendation is that $7-9 million should be cut over the next 2-3 years. I also found at least a few instances where the conclusion was not supported by the facts presented. For example, it is stated that our geographic location is an issue when it comes to recruiting. All of us know that River Falls is attractive in large part due to its proximity to the Twin Cities. The stated competition with the University of Minnesota is not much of a factor if one considers that Minneapolis has a large metro area of approximately 3 million people and U of M only enrolls approximately 30,000 students at its main campus. Currently, the State of Minnesota reports more than 400,000 students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in the state.
- Related to the Deloitte report, there is this legislative initiative in Wisconsin.
- Several weeks ago, I asked our CBO, Dave Ruhland, for clarification on the way the 100K compensation/compression funds were spent last year--- a list of names and amounts paid. Dave promised to provide me with these details.
- The provost will report on an initiative related to the First Year Seminar at the next Faculty Senate meeting.
- Officer reports.
- Committee chair reports.
- Approval of old minutes.
- Minutes from 4-02-2024.
- Business.
- (Tentative) The UWRF CBO will speak to the Executive Committee on the topics of the Deloitte report and 100K compensation spending last year.
- Discuss the organization of the upcoming Senate elections. Nomination ballots need to go out soon. Yoana found out that HR cannot provide us with a list of the faculty with graduate status. While they can still be nominated by all the faculty, the issue of who votes needs to be addressed.
- Motion from the Faculty Welfare & Personnel Policies Committee to revise immediately upon Faculty Senate and the Chancellor’s approval the Faculty and Staff Handbook, (a) Ch 5.2.1 Responsibility, (b) Ch 5.2.12 Across-the-board Adjustments, (c) Ch 5.3.1 Merit Rating Procedures, (d) Ch 5.5 Sick Leave, and (e) Ch 5.13 Employee Assistance Program as described here.
