UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls
Since 1963, high school students from throughout Wisconsin have gathered in July at UW-River Falls to participate in three days of activities focused on developing leadership potential and understanding cooperative business principles.
In preparation as the upcoming generation of co-op leaders, students organize and operate a functioning cooperative during the event. Participating students elect a six-member WECA Youth Board who will help plan the following year's Leadership Congress. Elected Youth Board members will have the opportunity to attend the NRECA Youth Tour, and visit the WECA offices and State Capitol legislative offices. Participant fees are covered by the sponsoring electric cooperatives.
Another feature of the Youth Congress is the annual WECA Essay Contest, with scholarship awards of $1000, $500, and $250, redeemable at any accredited post-secondary educational institution in the U.S.
