ACT Course Content

Student receive an in-depth review of the exam questions, insights into strategies for succeeding on standardized tests, and a comprehensive study plan.  Classes sessions use real test questions to show just how these skills are used to improve your scores. 

The curriculum include the following topics.

Math Topics

  • Practice solution techniques for problems containing variables.
  • Learn efficient approaches to complicated multi-step problems.
  • Discover tactics for translating difficult word problems into equations.

English Topics

  • Identify correct idiomatic speech in sentence correction problems.
  • Understand the basic concepts of rhetorical construction.
  • Learn which grammar errors are most frequently tested.

Reading Topics

  • Understand which part of the passage to read for reading comprehension questions.
  • Recognize the difference between global and local test items.
  • Identify passages written from the journalistic and engaged perspectives.

Science Reasoning Topics

  • Identify parameters for test items involving graphs and charts.
  • Interpolate or extrapolate answers from data given in tables.
  • Recognize the point of an experiment in research summary items.

General Test Taking Topics

  • Use the process of elimination.
  • Master time management skills.
  • Minimize test anxiety.
  • Identify common distractors.

 


ACT Blitz

ACT Blitz sessions provide all the same preparation of a classroom but from the comfort and convenience of an online format. Students receive a total of 16 hours of instruction over a four-week period or a one-week session held during school breaks.

Live-Online Format Features

  • The class is delivered live by an expert instructor, providing the interactivity of a classroom experience and the convenience of an online course.
  • Sessions are recorded and made available for review after the class.
  • Courses are conveniently scheduled in the weeks leading up to the most popular ACT dates.

November 2 –  December 5, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-7 p.m.
December 26 - December 29, Tuesday - Friday, Noon-4:15 p.m.

System Requirements

The ACT Blitz is offered online using Adobe Connect, a free browser plug-in. All you need are a high-speed internet connection, speakers or head phones, and Adobe Flash Player, which can also be downloaded for free. 

Course materials will be delivered directly to your home, or arrangements can be made for you to pick them up at the UWRF Continuing Education Office. We recommend registering at least four (4) business days in advance of the class start date to ensure timely delivery of your student package.

Withdrawals and Refunds

A participant must withdraw in writing, as received by mail, fax or email, to be eligible for a partial refund. Withdrawals received earlier than seven days before the start of the class will receive a refund less a processing fee. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals received later than seven days before the start of the class. See our Noncredit Payment Policy.
