Details: This course examines the American systems of criminal law and justice in socio-historical context. Students will explore the the three branches of the criminal justice system (law enforcement, courts, corrections) and critiques them against the backdrop of five cultural philosophies of criminal justice. The course further explores how crime is defined and measured and how social scientists theorize causes of crime and crime patterns.
