Climbing Wall

Recent Updates (COVID-19 Information):

FOA is looking forward to opening its doors to students once again this Fall. As a climbing community, we care about your time at the wall. To keep everyone safe, intentional measures have been taken to bring the climbing wall back to life. Much of the operations at the wall have been modified for your safety. Here are some of the things we’re doing to keep you safe:

  • Rental equipment disinfected and quarantined after each use
  • Deep clean of entire facility prior to opening
  • Entry/exit points
  • PPE required
  • Reduced occupancy to 12 climbers max
  • Reduced clinic sizes
  • Increased cleaning procedures

In addition to our new operating standards, expectations from our climbers will help ensure that everyone is safe. By adhering to these new policies and recommendations, we can focus on what really matters: the climbing!  Some of these expectations are listed below:

  • Face coverings are required for the duration of your visit
  • Hand sanitizer must be used upon arrival and before any climbing or belaying
  • Using personal equipment is encouraged
  • At least two ropes in between climbers at any time
  • Secure your climbing time with a reservation
  • Socially distance yourself from others as much as possible

Our biggest measure taken to increase safety and decrease crowding is moving to a reservation system. Each night of open climb will be split into two 80-minute shifts, with a deep cleaning taking place in between shifts. With a max occupancy of 12 climbers at a time, making a reservation is highly recommended, although drop ins are welcome if there is space. This reservation system will help reduce crowding and ensure the wall is available to all who wish to climb, but please be courteous and respect staff if the wall is full and you are turned away.

General Overview

In January 2017, an Eldorado Climbing Wall was opened in the Falcon Center for use by UWRF students, faculty/staff, and community members. This climbing wall is home to a thriving community of rock climbing enthusiasts, including the UWRF Rock Climbing Club. The new climbing facility includes:

  • Lead climbing
  • Auto-belay devices
  • Dual density foam flooring
  • Tall top-rope wall & bouldering wall with overhanging elements
  • Enclosed climbing specific facility
  • Climbing wall membership packages for UWRF faculty/staff, community, and families

Falcon Outdoor Adventures uses the new wall to host annual climbing competitions for local and regional climbers. For more information about the climbing competitions hosted at UWRF, click here.

*The Bouldering Wall will remain open during all Falcon Center Fitness Center hours with exception for academic classes, private reservations, and climbing club practice. Please click here for facility hours.
