What is the latest COVID-19 guidance ?

MARCH 1, 2024
CDC now says people who have Covid-19 should stay home until they’ve been fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours and their symptoms have been improving for 24 hours. After that, it’s fine to resume regular activities, agency experts say. But they recommend that people take additional precautions for the next five days — including improving ventilation, masking and limiting close contact with others — to lower the risk of spreading the virus.

These enhanced precautions are particularly important for people who are around vulnerable individuals, such as those who are elderly or have immune function that’s been blunted by medication or an illness, like cancer.
The CDC debuted a detailed section on respiratory virus guidance on its website.

Face coverings:

  • Required masking ended on March 11, 2022. Read the update here

  • Those who want to continue to wear masks are welcome to do so. The university will continue to make high-quality masks available as supplies last. Please respect everyone’s individual choices about masking.

Face coverings, in-person meetings

Employees who choose to require masks in their private unshared offices should proactively communicate the need to wear a face covering to those with whom they are scheduling in-person meetings. A virtual option must be provided. Please respect the choices of your fellow Falcons.

See additional face covering FAQs.

Can I continue wearing a mask if I prefer?

Yes. All members of the campus community may choose to wear or not wear face coverings. Please respect the choices and privacy of your fellow Falcons.

I’m an instructor, can I encourage or require masks in my classroom?

Instructors may not require students to wear masks in their classroom. They may suggest that students consider wearing them for certain activities, but this should not go beyond suggestions.

May individual departments require masks in their department suites/open spaces?

No. The chancellor's decision to remove the requirement to wear face coverings applies to all campus buildings, conference rooms, and shared spaces.

May employees require masks in their private unshared offices?

Yes. Employees who choose to require masks in their private unshared offices should proactively communicate the need to wear a face covering to those with whom they are scheduling in-person meetings. A virtual option must be provided.

If I continue to see members of the campus community wearing face coverings, should or may I ask them why they are wearing a mask or inform them that the requirement to wear face coverings has expired?

No. It is not appropriate to ask why someone is or is not wearing a mask. Please respect the choices and privacy of your fellow Falcons.
