What made you choose UW-River Falls?
It had the small town feel that I am used to, yet it's closed to the Twin Cities for sports and entertainment.

In what ways did your UWRF education help you to find a job? How are you using your training at UWRF in daily life?
While completing my math degree at UWRF, the math department contacted me about an opportunity to tutor students at the local middle school. I gained valuable experience working with students, and developed a relationship with the principal, who helped me prepare for future job interviews. That preparation gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed to obtain my current job at Hudson High School.

What was your favorite hang out in River Falls?
Off campus, the Falls Theatre was my favorite place to go. The history of the family-owned theater, great prices, and great movies made for a fun and affordable place to spend time. On campus, I enjoyed spending time at the University Center.

Do you have a professor or other faculty member who inspired you?
Throughout my experience in the math and economics education programs at UWRF, I had great experiences with all of my professors. However, John Walker, Keith Chavey, Steve List, and Erick Hofacker stood out as inspirations for what I wanted to become. I took multiple courses from each, and they all showed a combination of knowledge, humor, passion and a willingness to help that influenced me greatly. These professors were models for how a great teacher acts in the classroom.

What advice do you have for new students?
It's important to plan ahead. Students should talk to professionals in their desired field, request to job shadow and ask how to prepare for interviews. If you plan ahead, you'll be ready when a great opportunity comes.
