CAFES Scholarships for Current Students


  • CAFES freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors (who graduate in December) may be eligible for college scholarships
  • Your first major must be in CAFES
  • Only one application is required to be considered for all CAFES scholarships

Application Process for Current CAFES Students

Complete the general application at Financial Aid Scholarship page. With the UW-River Falls Scholarship System, you fill out one simple and secure general scholarship application in a few minutes.

List of Available Scholarships in CAFES

CAFES Alumni Scholarship - Awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student accepted at UWRF.
CAFES Freshman Leadership Award - Awarded to students who show the greatest potential to become future leaders in our society.
Bark Family Scholarship - Incoming freshman who plan to pursue a degree in College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Science area. Selection based on high school academic record, extracurricular activities.
Hartung Brothers, Inc. Scholarship - New freshman with declared major in ag business, ag education, crop science, soil science, ag engineering or horticulture. Must be active in 4H, FFA, Ag Club or any other agriculture related organization.
John E. Clemons Scholarship - Awarded to an incoming freshman who has a cumulative GPA between 3.00 and 3.50. Student may enroll in any major in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences.
Scheuermann Family Scholarship – Awarded to an incoming freshman ag business major.

Anoka County Gem and Mineral Club Scholarship: Established by the club in 2002
Central Livestock Scholarship: Central Livestock is a 90 year-old livestock marketing company
CHS Foundation Scholarship: CHS, Inc. is a leading global agribusiness owned by farmers, ranchers, and cooperatives across the U.S.
Diane Kasten Memorial Scholarship: Established to honor Diane's dedication to students in the animal science-equine program
Environmental Studies Opportunity Scholarships: Established by an anonymous donor for students working toward achieving positive advancements in the management of natural resources
Great Northern Oliver Collectors Scholarship: Established by the chapter in 2006
Growmark Inc. Scholarship: Growmark is a regional cooperative providing agriculture-related products and services, as well as grain marketing in the Midwest and Ontario, Canada
North Central Cheese Industries Association Scholarship: The goal of this scholarship is to support undergraduate students in dairy manufacturing who are interested in the cheese industry
Pi Alpha Xi - AZC Scholarship: Established by the UWRF local chapter in 1996
Pork Producers of Wisconsin Industry Scholarship: Established by the Pork Producers of Wisconsin Association in 1981
River Falls Garden Club Scholarship: The River Falls Garden Club established the scholarship to assist students majoring in horticulture
Whitetails Unlimited, Inc. Scholarship: Founded in 1982, Whitetails Unlimited, Inc. is a national conservation nonprofit
Wisconsin Crop Production Association Scholarship: The mission of the association is to act as a strong unifying voice for the agribusiness industries of Wisconsin
Wisconsin Livestock and Meat Council Scholarship: Founded in 1974, the Wisconsin Livestock and Meat Council benefits food, agriculture, and nutrition, focusing specifically on livestock breeding, development, and management programs
Wisconsin Nursery and Landscaping Association Scholarship: The Wisconsin Nursery and Landscaping Association has a history of more than half a century of serving the green industry and its more than 130 members, and it established this scholarship in 1998
Wisconsin Rural Opportunities Scholarship: The Foundation and the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin established this scholarship to benefit students from a Wisconsin family farm or rural area

1959 Aggies CAFES Scholarship: Inspired by the excellence of students enrolled in CAFES, and in recognition of the need for scholarship support, the 1959 Aggies desire to give back to a program that has greatly influenced the lives of those who graduated from CAFES in 1959
Abe Benson Memorial Scholarship: Established by Mabel Benson in her husband's memory
AgStar Financial Services Scholarship: AgStar Financial provides services to agricultural and rural clients in Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin
Archie J. Brovold Scholarship: Established by the family and friends of Archie Brovold
Clyde B. Campbell Agricultural Education Scholarship Award: Granted by the family of Professor Emeritus Campbell
Daniel G. Forsythe Memorial Scholarship: Kathleen Forsythe established this scholarship in memory of her husband
Dean Henderson Scholarship: Professor Emeritus Dean Henderson and his wife Linda established this scholarship

Dr. J. W. Bailey Scholarship: Dr. Jack W. Bailey ('35) bequethed this scholarship in his estate
Dr. Lee Wittwer Scholarship: Established by donations from a former student and CAFES Professor Emeritus  & UWRF Distinguished Teacher Dr. Lee Wittwer
Dr. Richard and Glenda Taylor Huston Scholarship: Dr. Richard Huston established this scholarship in 2011
Dr. Stephen C. Ridley Food Safety and Food Microbiology Scholarship: Professor Emeritus Dr. Purnendu C. Vasavada endowed this scholarship to honor Dr. Steven C. Ridley for his distinguished service to the College both as a faculty member and its Dean
Earl and Marguerite Sumner Scholarship: This scholarship was granted by an estate gift from Earl Sumner ('33) and his wife Maguerite
Edna and Rudy Cordua Scholarship: Professor Emeritus Dr. William S. Cordua established this scholarship in honor of his parents, Edna and Rudy Cordua
Farm Credit Services of Wisconsin: Farm Credit Services established an endowed scholarship in 1983 with the intent of awarding students who have achieved academic excellence, have an expressed interest in cooperative agri-business and/or agricultural finance, demonstrated leadership abilities and involvement in campus activities.
Francis J. and Lucille M. Haugh Agricultural Scholarship: Francis and Lucille Haugh both class of 1937 established this scholarship
Gary E. Rohde CAFES Alumni Scholarship: Established by the CAFES Alumni Association
George and Eleanor Timmerman Dairy Production Scholarship: George and Eleanor Timmerman built one of the finest dairy herds in Wisconsin and created this scholarship for students in CAFES
George Marx Scholarship: George Marx ('58) established this scholarship
Gerald R. Matteson Scholarship: Professor Emeritus Dr. Gerald "Doc" Matteson established this scholarship to support an agricultural education major
Gerhardt (Doc) Bohn & Judith Ann Bohn Memorial Scholarship: The Gerhardt (Doc) Bohn Memorial Scholarship was established by his family and ag engineering technology faculty in his memory
Great Lakes Wool Growers Association Scholarship: Established by Rudy Erickson (UWRF Lab Farm Director) in 1995
Greg and Donnette Wheelock Agriculture Scholarship: Greg and Donnette Wheelock, both UWRF graduates, established this scholarship
Indianhead Polled Hereford Association Scholarship: Established in 1976 by the association
Irving W. Gerhardt Scholarship: Gerhardt was a lifelong agriculture instructor who taught in the southern part of Wisconsin
James C. Dollahon Memorial Scholarship: The J.C. Dollahon Scholarship was provided by the estate of a 1957 River Falls graduate who held utmost respect for Dean J.C. Dollahon as a man and an educator
James C. Dollahon Bequest Scholarship: The J.C. Dollahon Scholarship was provided by the estate of a 1957 River Falls graduate who held utmost respect for Dean J.C. Dollahon as a man and an educator
Jan Radcliffe Memorial Scholarship: Renee Radcliffe ('86) provided an endowment to establish this scholarship in 1993 in memory of her husband Jan, a 1984 UWRF graduate
John May, A.N. Johnson and Dale Swenson Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was established by the faculty in CAFES in 1965 in memory of John May, A. N. Johnson, and Dale Swenson
Joseph N. & Margaret Johnson Memorial Scholarship: Margaret Johnson bequeathed a scholarship in memory of her husband Joseph
Kenneth E. Wallin Cooperatives Scholarship: Ken Wallin ('36) established this scholarship. He was CAFES Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturist in 1971 and UWRF Distinguished Alumnus in 1980
Kristen Allen and David Trechter Scholarship: Kristen Allen, UWRF Outreach and Continuing Education, and David Trecher, Professor of Ag Economics established this scholarship in 2012
Kuschel Agricultural Scholarship: Clarence and Bertha Kuschel established this endowment in 1994. The Kuschel's owned and operated a successful dairy farm outside of River Falls
Lee Milligan Memorial Agriculture Scholarship: Debbie Milligan established this scholarship in memory of her husband Lee who was a 1976 UWRF graduate and UW Cooperative Extension Agent
Lloyd and Alberta Ruesink Scholarship: Former Chancellor Ann Lydecker and her husband William established this scholarship in honor of Ann Lydecker's parents
Mark C. Peters Memorial Scholarship: Mark Peters was an animal science major. Alpha Gamma Rho, the UWRF Block and Bridle Club, and his mother Nancy Henck established this scholarship in Mark's memory
Mark S. Murray Memorial Scholarship: Al Murray, long-time employee of UWRF, established this scholarship in memory of his father
Martin A. Abrahamsen Scholarship: The Martin A. Abrahamsen scholarship was established by Dr. Abrahamsen, a 1930 graduate of UW-River Falls, and a Distinguished Alumnus in 1979
Marvin D. and Phyllis S. Thompson Agricultural Education Scholarship: Dr. Marvin Thompson, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Agricultural Education, and his wife Phyllis established this scholarship
Mary Catherine Hook Virnig Memorial Scholarship: Mary Catherine was an animal science major and her parents established this scholarship in her honor
Mel H. Cohee Student Leader Soil Conservation Scholarship: Established by Melville H. Cohee, soil conservationist in the 1930's, to promote effective leadership in natural resource conservation for future generations of Americans
Michael and Jessina Dineen Memorial Scholarship: Michael and Jessina Dineen grew up in Wisconsin's Chippewa Valley. Mike worked in the construction industry and Jess was a public school music director. Their passion for the outdoors and commitment to education inspired Jess to create a scholarship program from their estate to provide scholarships to CAFES students who choose to pursue their education in the fields of Natural Resources or Environmental Studies.
Michelle Lammers Memorial Scholarship: Michelle Lammers was a graduate of UWRF and taught ag education at Colby High School. The Colby High School Alumni Assocication and Dr. Jerry Matteson established this scholarship in Michelle's memory
Moses Strong Jr. Scholarship: This scholarship commemorates the memory of Moses Strong, a field geologist and mining engineer who served as assistant state geologist for Wisconsin from 1873 to 1877
Niles D. Westby Scholarship: Niles Westby was a 1951 UWRF graduate, this scholarship was established by his wife Patricia who was also a 1951 UWRF graduate
Norman L. Christianson Memorial Scholarship: The family of Norman Christianson established this scholarship in his name to honor his accomplishments on behalf of the University during his career, including his term as a Regent and his status as a Distinguished Alumnus
Northwest Wisconsin Dairy Technology Society Scholarship: Established in 1983 by the society
Ralph, Ruth, and Wayne Locke Memorial Scholarship: In memory of Ralph Locke 1916 and Ruth Locke 1913
Richard J. & LaVerne Delorit Scholarship: Dr. Delorit joined the faculty in 1953 and became the first Dean of the College in 1957. In 1964 he assumed the position of Vice-Chancellor until his retirement in 1985
Richard J. Starkey Memorial Scholarship: Richard graduated with a BS in geography in 1966 and taught social science at Ellsworth Junior High School
Roger J. Gerrits Scholarship: Roger J. Gerrits ('58) established this scholarship
Rothermel - Merck Scholarship: A charitable trust was established by William A. and Audrey W. Rothermel to fund scholarships
Stanley J. and Lois Atkinson Bednarczyk Scholarship: This scholarship fund was established by the estate of Lois and Stanley Bednarczyk (1939) in memory of Anna Bednarczyk
Stella Marcuk Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2002
Thomas J. Carmichael Memorial Scholarship: Nancy Carmichael established this scholarship in memory of her husband Tom UWRF 1967
Thorvald & Wilma Thoreson Memorial Scholarship: Professor Emeritus Thorvald Thoreson graduated from UW-River Falls in 1935. He taught agricultural engineering from 1947 until his retirement in 1979
W.F. Lusk Memorial Scholarship: The W. R. Lusk Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1961 by Mrs. Lucy K. Lusk in the memory of her husband William Lusk who was an instructor in the College
Wanda "Mom" Ziegelman Leadership Scholarship: Wanda "Mom" Ziegelman was the House Mother for the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and she established this scholarship for members of AGR
Wayne B. & Iva E. Martin Scholarship: This scholarship fund was established by W. Bradford Martin memory of Wayne B. and Iva E. Martin
William and Nancy Maurina Family Scholarship: William Maurina graduated in 1958 with a degree in Agricultural Education and a Master's in Ag Ed in 1976. His wife Nancy graduated from UW-Stout and completed post-graduate work at University of Indiana Medical Center. The Maurina's were active in the Girl Scouts of America and other organizations.
Wisconsin Garden Club Federation-Carolyn A. Craig Scholarship: Established in 2019 it was the express wish of the late Dr. James Craig and Carolyn Craig that the fund support a student majoring in horticulture or an allied subject. Carolyn Craig has been an active member of the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation for many years. Upon completing a term as presidents of the Federation in 1987, she accepted a position as WGCF Scholarship Chair, guiding the program with pride until her retirement in 2011. Under her leadership over 124 scholarships were awarded - many to students attending UWRF.
Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association Scholarship: Established in 2008 by the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association, a member-based organization designed to cultivate Wisconsin's cranberry industry and support its growers

Outside Scholarships

There are many scholarships outside the University (not affiliated with CAFES) that may be available for CAFES majors. These are often sponsored by professional agricultural or environmental organizations or associations. The list below is not a complete list by any means, but include some common outside scholarships or scholarships of which our students have previously been receipients. These scholarships have varying deadlines and you are responsible for reading through all eligibility requirements and application instructions. You are also encouraged to search for outside scholarships beyond what is listed here.

Incoming Freshmen and New Transfer Student Scholarships

Incoming freshman and new transfer students are able to apply for scholarships after activating their Falcon Account. Complete the general application: UW-River Falls Scholarship System. Activities from your application are used in the scholarship decision-making. Please describe in detail academic recognition, extra-curricular activities and career plans.
