UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls
The UW-River Falls Meat Pilot Plant offers all the benefits of full-scale plant production but on a smaller scale. The pilot plant is a state-licensed meat facility located in the Food Science Addition, part of the Agricultural Science complex. The purpose of the plant is to support our teaching and outreach activities.
The Meat Pilot Plant is run by six to eight undergraduates primarily from CAFES under the supervision of the plant manager. Students gain hands-on experience, learning the many aspects of the meat industry including harvesting, fabricating, and value-added processing of meat products. Our students also play a role in maintaining high manufacturing standards focused on food safety and quality assurance.
