Our Mission
Since 1986, the Women’s Studies Program at UWRF, although housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, has had a university-wide mission.  An interdisciplinary program emphasizing an awareness of gendered relations in culture, the academy, the work world, and the political sphere, the Program promotes students’ development of ethical and engaged citizenship through a commitment to academic excellence, social justice, and service.

With courses addressing gender issues in science, the law, literature, film, health, history, politics, psychology and sociology, the minor in Women’s Studies equips women and men with the critical tools for rigorous intellectual inquiry into the issues of feminism.  It also promotes a sense of community among students, staff and faculty, and the ability to work toward the goal of a just and equitable society.

Purpose of Women's Studies Minor
A minor in Women’s Studies provides students with the following:  a broad historical representation of scholarship on women; and a set of methodologies that acknowledges the intrinsic value of the experiences, contributions, and perspectives of both women and men.

The minor consists of a core unit and elective courses in many disciplines for a total of 23 minimum credit hours.
