Advance PaymentAdvance Payment provides funds at the beginning of a school term to help the student meet expenses concentrated at the beginning of the term. Who is Eligible? You may receive an Advance Payment for the initial month and the following month, if: You train at one-half time or more; How Much Can I Get? The VA will mail an advance payment check, made out to you, to the school's cashier's office for delivery to you at registration. We can’t issue the check more than 30 days before classes start. If you receive an advance payment at registration, be sure the school certifies to VA that you received the check. If you reduce your enrollment or withdraw from all courses during the period covered by an advance payment and you’ve cashed the check, you’ll have an overpayment that we’re required to collect. If you think the amount of the advance payment is wrong, contact us before you cash the check. How Can I Apply?
