Advance Payment

Advance Payment provides funds at the beginning of a school term to help the student meet expenses concentrated at the beginning of the term.

Who is Eligible?

You may receive an Advance Payment for the initial month and the following month, if:

You train at one-half time or more;
You request an advance payment on your VS2005F form; and
VA receives your enrollment certification at least 30 days before classes start.

How Much Can I Get?

The VA will mail an advance payment check, made out to you, to the school's cashier's office for delivery to you at registration. We can’t issue the check more than 30 days before classes start. If you receive an advance payment at registration, be sure the school certifies to VA that you received the check.

If you reduce your enrollment or withdraw from all courses during the period covered by an advance payment and you’ve cashed the check, you’ll have an overpayment that we’re required to collect.

If you think the amount of the advance payment is wrong, contact us before you cash the check.

How Can I Apply?

Just check the box and sign your name in the Advance Payment box when you fill out your VS2005F after registration.
