China Eco-Tourism Project
The Institute, with various faculty and students, has provided on-site assistance to the China Exploration and Research Society (CERS) for planning and design of ecotourism projects in northwestern Yunnan Province on the southern Tibetan Plateau. For example, UWRF student Nick Bisley participated in conceptual planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of an improved trail system for both visitors and local residents of the Mei Xiang Community and Langdu Village (also known as the Langdu Cheese Factory site). These trails are intended to cater to both the recreational needs of visitors and the daily utilitarian needs of the native community at large. A new commercial scale building has been built along with several log cabin buildings, with the intention of accommodating tourists. The goal of the owners and stakeholders is to make this site an eco-tourism/”geo-tourism” destination.
