Serving my community is a life changing experience. As a group we cheerfully served our elderly community. It can be said that if you are not cheerfully volunteering, then on is not volunteering.

I had thought about doing volunteer work before I had the opportunity to join Falcon Fellows Program, but I never got around to it. Being in this program has shown me how rewarding volunteering can be, and has also
made me want to continue volunteering once my time in the Falcon ellows Program is up. It has introduced me to some wonderful people and has given me good experiences.

I have learned so much in Falcon Fellows. The program taught me how to give back to the community and how much it means to the community and myself. I've gain the power to volunteer and in return, I gain the power to allow myself to respect others who gives back to the community. It makes me happy knowing how much a person can make a difference.

I have gotten a fabulous experience through the Falcon Fellows Program as a mentor. I have expanded upon my communication skills while working with Double K and my mentees, as well as gaining personal growth through taking care of Double K and volunteering there throughout the semester.

Falcon Fellows has been a great experience! I have met so many new and wonderful people and enjoyed working along with them while serving the community.

Major: Elementary Education

What I have learned from being in the Falcon Fellows Program is that it takes team work to get things done. Also, the little things are the ones that count the most to people. Just to see the senior citizens at the Lutheran Home smile because of something I did or said is the happiest thing ever to me.

Major: Animal Science - Equine

I have learned through Falcon Fellows, that even a couple hours a week can really help someone out and make a difference. I also have gained experience with horses, which will benefit me later down the road. Although I was not able to help out with the therapeutic riding over the spring semester, I was able to help the family who does the program.

I love being a part of the Falcon Fellows Program, I have met so many amazing people. The best part of the Falcon Fellows Program so far for me was the Students Today Leaders Forever (Pay-It-Forward Service Trip) that I got to go on over Spring Break. It was a great experience, and we got to help so many people.

I have gained a better understanding of what individuals go through in order to maintain their responsibilities, especially the elderly. I have also become more appreciative of the elderly, because of the things I have witnessed and discussed with seniors. I have grown to love spending time with the elderly, and and wish to get to know more of them.

Ali Struber

Major: Communicative Disorders

When I first applied for Falcon Fellows, I didn't expect for this experience to be so amazing. It was wonderful to meet all of my goup memebers and I continue to love each moment we spend together. Working with the elderly at The Lutheran Home has been great and enjoyable as well and I am very glad I have chosen this site. I am very grateful for this experince and will continue to enjoy every minute of it.

Being a part of Falcon Fellows has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone, and do things that I wouldn't normally do. I've gained a lot of great leadership skills and learned a lot of new things. Falcon Fellows is a great program to be a part of.

Jeff Milliren

Mentor: Jeffrey Milliren

Major: Psychology (Geared toward Counseling and Therapy)
Minor: Animal Science

Through the Falcon Fellows Program I have come to appreciate the little things in life a lot more in my life and through the eyes of others. In particular, from the progarm I have learned when to say “NO,” which may seem simple but it is a real skill to develop. Plus, it is a priveledge to work with such wonderful site supervisors at Double K Acres – Walk-On Therapeutic Riding Center who serve a unique sect of society who otherwise might not be served, and put their concerns above their own.

Minor: Conservation

Being a non-traditional student it has been hard to try to fit in, but I have met a lot of great people and learned so many new things by participating in this program. It helped me to realize that I can make aifference in my future and the future of so many others. The program is very self rewarding, and definitively makes you feel as though you have ccomplished something at the end of the day. I hope that when my children are older they may also learn the great benefits and opportunities that the Americorps offers.

I think I have gained a ton more patience, because of being around such a range of people within the Falcon Fellows Program and from volunteering. Also, from Falcon Fellows Program, I have gained time management. Yes, I know time management, but the thing is it was very hard to keep up with school and volunteer so I had to plan the days out that I was going to volunteer accordingly.

The Falcon Fellows Program has helped me realize the importance of volunteering. Seeing the joy in those I help brings joy to my life as well. This joy is not something I can describe, it is something you see, something that brings peace of heart and peace of mind.

Statement: What I have gained from the Falcon Fellows Program, is that even spending about five hours a week volunteering can really help people. I have noticed that when I visit the Lutheran Home where I do service the people there really enjoy seeing us, and get excited for what we have in store for them that day. I think that the Falcon Fellows Program has showed me the value of helping the community, and has also showed me how to be a better person. This world revolves around money, but for some people their volunteering means something more than money. It is an experience you will have for a lifetime.

Falcon Fellows is really an awesome program, because it allows me to give back to my community. Growing up, it was all about me. Now that I am older and wiser, I know this is not true. Everyones's actions impacts the world, and each other on some level. Participating in this program helps me make my impact a positive one that will not only change my life but the lives of the people I impact. One thing I really love about this program, is that it inspires. It certainly inspires me. It makes me want to be better, friendlier, and more aware of world issues. Together, I believe everyone can make a difference. For those not involved now, get involved. Now is the time to make your mark. Make sure it is a positive one.
