SPS Meeting Minutes

News and Notes from the April 7, 2008 SPS meeting
  • Successful meeting with a meal! You all missed out on some great food.
  • THIS WEEK: public observing on the first clear night (ha!). Dr. Korenic is giving a talk on "Toys in Space" at 8:30, viewing at 9:00. Assistants take note.
  • Tuesday April 15: Student Organizations Website meeting. Two sessions, 1-2 pm and 6-7 pm. For any organization that has a website or wants one next year. Chris and Matt Cady are planing on attending.
  • Bowl for Kids Sake: We're getting close to meeting our requirements. Send money to Bridget.
  • We have agreed to help Big Brothers-Big Sisters next week Weds 16th (4-5pm) and Thurs 17th (3-4pm).
  • Physics with the Twins: Six people attended, the teachers were VERY appreciative, the Twins contact guy was appreciative. Could have used more people to keep the throng of students under control, but otherwise it was awesome.
  • Spring picnic: Wednesday May 7, James reserved the shelter today.
  • Zone meeting planning: 6 other schools are attending. We have over 60 people attending. There is a detailed agenda posted online. Breakfast will be HERE in CSH on Saturday morning. That means we will need a team to do some shopping for donuts/muffins/juice/ cups/plates, and someone to sign up to serve and clean up! If you've already signed up, we will be tracking you down. If it is clear Friday night, we will go to the observatory, however the weather forecast looks grim! Dr. Korenic has offered to do a planetarium show as a backup plan. We also need volunteers to staff a table set up Friday evening for selling tee-shirts and such, other chapters are invited to bring things. Saturday if the weather is nice we'll bring out the trebuchet after lunch. Pre-Engineering bridge competition is currently scheduled for all day Monday.
