Welcome to the homepage for the UW-River Falls chapter of the Society of Physics Students.

This is a well-protected list (NO spam!) and is a great way get all the latest information on events and opportunities in SPS and the physics department. Alumni, this is an easy way to stay connected with UWRF!

Last year one of the biggest things we did was to host a Zone Meeting, inviting schools from across Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois to brave an April snowstorm and come to River Falls. It was great! For our report on the zone meeting, click here.

Every year we design a new SPS shirt. Start your creative juices flowing now, so we can get the design chosen early in the year!

MEETING TIME: We meet ALMOST every week. This Fall we plan to meet EVERY TUESDAY at NOON in Room 113. We usually have cookies or some other treat. These weekly meetings are a good way to keep in touch with events in the Physics Department, as well as to help plan SPS activities. Most meetings last less than 30 minutes! In addition to those meetings, we will do other fun stuff at other times, so even if you can't make it to meetings, you can still be a part of SPS. Also, last spring we tried having one meeting per month in the evening, with a pot-luck meal. We may try that again this year!

EVENTS FOR THIS YEAR

  • The Fall Picnic is set for Wednesday September 17 at the enclosed shelter at the west end of Glen Park. Plan for it!
  • Will we have a Fall Design competition? Probably!
  • Early in the Fall semester we will have a Book and Bake Sale, we've got some really nice physics and engineering books added to our stockpile, an incredibly easy way to build your personal reference library.
  • November 6-8 we will send a delegation to the Sigma Pi Sigma Congress at Fermilab, we've been raising funds toward that goal for over a year now. Deciding how big a delegation will be one of our first things to discuss this fall!

    • The Physics Help Room is staffed by upper level physics students. More information about the help room can be found on the help room page.
