Kat Krtnick

Assistant Coach

Kat Krtnick enters her first season as assistant coach for the Falcons. A Fridley, Minn., native, Krtnick returns to the Falcons after a year-long internship at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis where she worked in the Branding and Communications department.

Krtnick, a setter for the Falcons from 2003-06, was named to the All-WIAC team three years and honored as the WIAC’s Scholar-Athlete in 2006. She currently holds the all-time dig record (1,799), ranks third in all-time assists (1,645) and fourth in individual games played (498). Krtnick was also selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District second team and was voted the Most Valuable Player by her teammates for both her junior and senior seasons. A UWRF Chancellor’s Award recipient, Krtnick graduated in 2007 with a marketing communications and biology-biomedical sciences double-major.

While in Indianapolis, she was a volunteer coach for the Butler University volleyball team and the assistant coach for the Circle City 16-1’s junior Olympic program.

In addition to coaching, Krtnick is currently pursuing her MBA at UW-River Falls.

Corey Phelps

Assistant Coach

Corey Phelps enters his first season as assistant coach at UWRF after previous coaching stints at the University of Minnesota-Morris and St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minn. A very technical coach, Phelps’ experience and knowledge will be valuable assets to the Falcon program.

For the past four years, Phelps was the assistant coach at the University of Minnesota-Morris, but started his college coaching career at Saint Mary's in 1998 as the assistant volleyball coach. While at St. Mary’s he helped the program to the best win/loss record in school history over a five-year span and a NCAA national tournament berth in 2000.

Phelps played collegiate volleyball at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa from 1993-95 where he was a captain and an all-conference outside hitter. His team finished second in the nation to the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.

Since graduating from college, Phelps has continued his playing success on the men’s club level. Most recently, he competed on the Silverbacks, a AA club team based out of the Twin Cities. The team placed third at open nationals in June 2008.

Phelps graduated from Graceland University in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health.
