Kantrud Named to WIAC Golf
All-Sportsmanship Team

Falcon Katie Kantrud (Sr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) has been named to the 2008 WIAC golf All-Sportsmanship team.

The WIAC announced its inaugural All-Sportsmanship Team for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  The team included one member from each school as selected by that school.

Kantrud, a senior from Fergus Falls, Minn., played in all five matches and 10.5 rounds. She finished with an average of 96.6 strokes per round.

Falcons Finish in Seventh Place at WIAC Championships

The Falcons finished seventh after the final 18 holes of the WIAC Golf Championships Sunday at the Northern Bay Resort Golf and Marina.

UWRF took a total of 974 strokes over the three-day tournament. Stevens Point won the tournament passing host Eau Claire who led the teams after the first two days of the competition. Stevens
Point took a total of 822 strokes (341-320-161) and won an automatic placement to compete in the NCAA Division III Championship. Eau Claire finished with 825 strokes (329-322-174). Whitewater finished third with 855 strokes (338-342-175), Stout finished fourth with 894 strokes (357-356-181), Superior fifth with 906 strokes (362-363-181), Platteville sixth with 936 stokes (381-377-178) and Oshkosh eighth with 974 strokes in total (393-401-204).

Kelly Gordh led the Falcons to take 29th place with a total of 233 strokes. Janae Lyon followed closely in 32nd place with 237 strokes. Katie Kantrud finished 39th with 245 strokes. Courtney Swanson placed 43rd with 266 strokes and Erica Laffin placed 45th taking 281 strokes.

Katie Maurer of Eau Claire won the individual competition with a total of 194 strokes, which was 14 over par.

The tournament was the last of the season for the Falcons.

Falcons in Seventh Place After Day Two of WIAC Championships

Oct. 4, 2008

The Falcons moved up a place into seventh after the second day of the WIAC Golf Championships at the Northern Bay Resort Golf and Marina Saturday afternoon.

UWRF took 378 strokes for a two-day total of 783. Host Eau Claire remains in first place shooting a 322 for a two-day total of 651 strokes. Stevens Point is in second shooting a 320 for a total of 661, Whitewater in third taking 342 strokes for a total of 680, Stout in fourth with a total of 713 strokes, shooting a 356, Superior in fifth shooting a 363 for a total of 725, Platteville in sixth shooting a 377 for a total of 758 and Oshkosh in eighth shooting a 401 for a total of 794 strokes.

Falcon Kelly Gordh continues to lead the Falcons shooting a 90 for a two-day total of 185 to move herself up three spots in the standings at 29th. Janae Lyon is in a tie for 33rd with a total of 189 strokes (98-91). Katie Kantrud is in 39th with a total of 198 strokes (108-90) and Courtney Swanson is in 42nd with 212 total strokes (104-108).

Katie Maurer of Eau Claire remains in first place shooting a 77 for a total of 154 strokes over the two days.

On Sunday the Falcons will compete in the third and final day of the tournament. Competition will resume at the Northern Bay Resort beginning at 9 a.m.

Falcons in Eighth Place After Day One of WIAC Championships

Oct. 3, 2008

The Falcons are in eighth place after competing in the first day of the WIAC Championships Friday afternoon at the Northern Bay Resort Golf and Marina.

UWRF took 405 strokes for the last place standing. Host Eau Claire is in first place with 329 strokes. Whitewater is in second (338) , Stevens Point in third (341), Stout in fourth (357), Superior in fifth (362), Platteville in sixth (381) and Oshkosh in seventh (393).

Kelly Gordh leads the Falcons in 31st place among individuals. She shot a 95. Janae Lyon is in a tie for 35th with 98 strokes. Courtney Swanson took 104 strokes for a standing at 41st. Falcon Katie Kantrud follows closely in 44th with 108 strokes and Erica Laffin is in a tie for 45th with 112 strokes. Mackenzie Casey withdrew from the tournament and did not compete.

Katie Maurer of Eau Claire is in first place with 77 strokes, which was five over par.

On Saturday the Falcons will compete in the second of the three-day tournament. Competition will resume at the Northern Bay Resort.

Falcons Finish 9th at UW-Stevens Point Invite

Sept. 28, 2008

The Falcons finished the UW-Stevens Point Invitational Sunday taking ninth place.

The team took 751 total strokes in total over the two-day competition. It shot 386 the first day and for a better of 365 the second day. Stevens Point won the invite in a playoff against St. Thomas with 637 strokes. Whitewater took third with 670 strokes.

Janae Lyon led the Falcons in a five-way tie for 36th place. She shot 97-89 for a total of 186. Kelly Gordh followed in 41st place with a total of 187 strokes (99-88). Katie Kantrud (97-92) and Mackenzie Casey (93-96) tied for 46th place, both taking a total of 189 strokes. Erica Laffin finished 69th shooting 125 on both days for a total of 250 strokes.

Laura Heck of St. Thomas won the individual competition with a total of 153 strokes (73-80). She was seven over par.

The meet was held at the Stevens Point Country Club.

The Falcons will compete next in the WIAC Meet at Arkdale on Oct. 3-5 at the Northern Bay Golf Resort.

Casey Leads Falcons at UW-Stevens Point Invite

Sept. 27, 2008

The Falcon golf team competed in the first of a two-day invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point.

UWRF is in ninth place in the standings out of 13 teams with a total of 386 strokes.

The University of St. Thomas leads the teams with 309 strokes. Host Stevens Point is in second with 313 strokes and UW-Whitewater is in third with 340.

Mackenzie Casey leads the Falcons in a seven-way tie for 35th. She shot a 93. Katie Kantrud and Janae Lyon follow in a five-way tie for 47th, both took 97 strokes. Kelly Gordh shot a 99 to put her in 52nd and Erica Laffin shot a 125 for a standing of 69th.

Laura Heck of St. Thomas leads the individuals coming out even after the first day of competition.

The meet was held at the par-73 golf course at the Stevens Point Country Club.

On Sunday the Falcons will play in final day of the tournament. Competition will resume at the Stevens Point Country Club at 9 a.m.

Falcons Finish 13th at Division III Classic

Sept. 13, 2008

The Falcon golf team finished 13th at the Division III Midwest Classic held Sunday at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club on Sunday.

Katie Kantrud was the top Falcon with a second round of 92 and a two-day total of 183. She tied for 44th place overall. Mackenzie Casey was next for the Falcons. She shot a 92 on Sunday and finished with a two-day total of 189. She tied for 57th place. Casey's finish on Sunday was five strokes better than her score on Saturday. Kelly Gordh had the best round of the day for the Falcons with a 91. She took 13 strokes off her Saturday score and finished at 195 and tied for 74th place. Courtney Swanson also had a better Sunday round and finished with a 102. Her two-day total was 206 and she placed 89th. Janae' Lyon, who shot a 95 on Saturday did not play on Sunday. The Falcons finished with 764 strokes.

St. Thomas' Laura Heck was the individual winner with a two-day total of 157 which was 13 over par. Par was 72. Gustavus Adolphus won the team title with a 652 total.

On Sept. 27 and 28 the Falcons will play in the Stevens Point Invitational.

Falcons in Tie For 12th at Classic

Sept. 12, 2008

The Falcon golf team is in a tie for 12th place after the first day of the Division III Midwest Classic held at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club on Saturday.

Katie Kantrud was the top Falcon with a first round total of 91. Janae' Lyon was second for the Falcons after shooting a 95. Mackenzie Casey was next with a 97 followed by Kelly Gordh and Courtney Swanson who both shot 104s. The Falcons finished with 387 strokes and are tied wtih St. Mary's.

Kimhra Kosak was the individual leader after shooting a 76. Par was 72. Her team, Gustavus Adolphus, was the team leader with a 318 total.

The Falcons will compete in day two of the Classic on Sunday.

Falcons Take 8th at UW-Platteville Invite

Sept. 7, 2008

The Falcons finished the UW-Platteville Invite Sunday taking eighth place.

The team took 828 strokes in total over the two-day competition. UWRF shot a 427 the first day and a 401 on day two. Stevens Point won the invite with 681 strokes. Whitewater took second with 702 strokes and host Platteville took third, shooting a 754.

Mackenzie Casey finished at the top for the Falcons. She shot a 94-96 for a total of 190 for 18th place. Janae' Lyon placed 31st with a total of 201 (102-99). Katie Kantrud followed; she shot for a total of 211 (110-101) for 35th and Courtney Swanson placed 43rd with a total of 226 (121-105) strokes.

Michelle Pascavis of Stevens Point won the individual competition with a total of 164 strokes (80-84). She finished 20 over par.

The meet was held at the Platteville Golf and Country Club.

The Falcons will compete next in the Division III Midwest Classic on Sept. 13-14 at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club.

Casey Leads Falcons at UW-Platteville Invite

Sept. 6, 2008

The golf team competed in the first day of the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday at the Platteville Golf and Country Club.

The Falcons are last in team standings (eighth) with 427 strokes. UW-Stevens Point is the leader with 338 strokes, followed UW-Whitewater with 356 strokes.

Mackenzie Casey leads the Falcons; she shot a 94. Casey is in 14th place. Janae' Lyon is in a tie for 31st; she shot a 102. Katie Kantrud shot a 110 and is in 40th. Shooting a 121 Courtney Swanson is placed at 45th.

Michelle Pascavis of Stevens Point is the leader going into day two. She shot an 80. Chelsea Davis of Whitewater follows her shooting an 84.

Sunday the Falcons will play a second round on the final day of the tournament. The competition is set to start at 9 a.m. at the Platteville Golf and Country Club.

Falcons Finish 18th at UWEC Invitational

The Falcon golf team finished 18th in the two-day UW-Eau Claire Invitational that concluded on Sunday.

The Falcons finished with 742 strokes. UWRF shot 351 on the first day and 391 on Sunday.

Mackenzie Casey was the top Falcon finisher with a two-day total of 176. She shot rounds of 85-91 and placed in a tie for 52nd place. Kelly Gordh was next for the Falcons with rounds of 86-94 - 180. She placed in a tie for 65th place. Katie Kantrud shot rounds of 89-98 for a two-day total of 187. She tied for 85th place. Janae' Lyon was next for the Falcons with rounds of 91-108 for a two day total of 199. She placed in a tie for 112th place. Courtney Swanson shot 101-113 for a two day total of 214 and she placed 130th .

Wartburg's Steph Burns was the individual champion with rounds of 79-78 for a 157 total. She finished 12 over par. Gustavus Adolphus won the team title with a two-day total of 646 which was 66 strokes over par. They defeated Wartburg by one stroke.

Sunday's meet was held at the par-73 Wild Ridge Golf Course. Saturday's meet was at the par-72 Mill Run Golf Course.

The Falcons will next compete in the UW-Platteville Invitational on Sept. 6-7 at the Platteville Golf & Country Club.

Casey Leads Falcons in Season-Opening Meet

Aug. 30, 2008

The Falcon golf team opened its 2008 season playing at the first day of the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday.

UWRF is in 17th place in the team standings with a total of 351 strokes.

Mackenzie Casey is the top Falcon shooting an 85. She is in a tie for 49th place. Kelly Gordh is just a stroke behind with an 86 and she is in a tie for 57th place. Katie Kantrud shot an 89 and is in a tie for 73rd place. Janae' Lyon shot a 91 and is tied for 82nd place. Courtney Swanson shot a 101 and is in 127th place.

Macalester's Karla Leon is the individual lead with a 75. Wartburg holds the team lead with a 313 total.

The meet was held at the par-72 Mill Run Golf Course.

Sunday the Falcons will play in the second and final day of the tourney. The play will be at the Wild Ridge Golf Course and will start at 8:30 a.m.
