Women's Cross Country Earns March 4, 2009 The Falcon women's cross country team has earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average. The Falcons placed 13th of 43 teams at the NCAA Midwest Regional held on Nov. 15 in Rock Island, Ill. UWRF compiled a 3.21 team grade point average. Forty percent of all Division III institutions (394) who sponsor women's cross country received the honor. In addition, 30 of the 32 teams in the championship field at this year's NCAA Div. III cross country championships were named USTFCCCA All-Academic teams, including every team who finished in the top ten. The Falcon co-coaches are Keven Syverson and Scott Sekelsky. |

Ernst Named to All-Academic Team Feb. 27, 2009 Ernst, who was named to the 2007 team also, ran in five races for the Falcons in 2008. He set a school record when he ran a 24:56 at the Brooks Invitational hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 18. He ran a 26:07.3 at the WIAC meet and placed 15th overall. At the NCAA Regional, he ran a 26:07 and placed 58th overall. The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average and must finish in the top 25 percent of the field at their respective NCAA Regional meet. |

Jordahl places 14th at Cross Country Nationals; Earns All-American Honor Nov. 22, 2008 Becca Jordahl placed 14th out of 297 at the 2008 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship Meet hosted by Hanover College in Indiana. Jordahl finished the 6000 meter race with a time of 21:25.11. Her average pace was 5:44.7 per mile, and her performance earned her All-American honors. Jordahl became an individual qualifier for the National Meet after placing second overall in the Midwest Regional. The Panther's of Middlebury College in Vermont won their fifth NCAA title after totaling 179 points in the race. Following Middlebury College was Calvin College, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Calvin College totaled 237 points. Williams College of Massachusetts came in third after totaling 240 points. A total of 31 different schools participated in the meet. Junior Marie Borner of Bethel University in Minnesota had the best overall time after running the race in 20:43.91. Borner maintained an average pace of 5:33.7 per mile. Elise Tropiano, a senior from Amherst College in Massachussets, placed second overall with a time of 20:52.96 and an average pace of 5:36.1 per mile. Placing third was Ayla Mitchell of UW-Oshkosh, who ran a 21:02.91 and held an average pace of 5:38.8. |

Jordahl Qualifies For NCAA Nov. 16, 2008 Becca Jordahl will run in Saturday's NCAA National Cross Country Meet which will be held at Hanover, Ind., College. Jordahl is an individual qualifier. She placed second in last weekend's NCAA Midwest Regional and earned All-Region honors for her efforts. Jordahl finished the 6,000-meter course at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill., in 21:32. She finished just 3.8 seconds behind the winner, Ayla Mitchell, of UW-Oshkosh. Jordahl, who placed fourth in last year's NCAA Meet and earned All-American, has a best time of 20:59 this year. She ran that at the Oshkosh Invitational on Oct. 18. That time is the school record. Jordahl ran in the Pre-NCAA Meet in Hanover on Oct. 4 and finished that race in 21:27.99 and placed second. Jordahl won the WIAC individual championship on Nov. 1 when she ran a 21:00.59. Jordahl earned NCAA track & field All-American honors in three events last year. In the National indoor championships she placed second in the 5,000-meter race. In the National outdoor meet she won the 5,000 and placed third in the 10,000. She helped the Falcon women's team win the NCAA National outdoor team championship. The Eau Claire, La Crosse and Oshkosh teams will compete in the meet while Platteville's Jessica Scott and Stevens Point's Kelly Haen will join Jordahl as individual qualifiers. |

Jordahl Places Second Overall at Midwest Regional Nov. 15, 2008 Becca Jordahl came up big for the Falcons after placing second overall in the Midwest Regional hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island IL. Jordahl torched the competition with a time of 21:32, as there were a total of 292 runners in the women’s race. The Falcon women placed 13th out of 43. Coming in after Jordahl was Carly Eggert. Eggert placed 60th overall with a time of 23:28. Following Eggert was Leah Korf, who placed 85th overall with a time of 24:01. Christine Peters placed 94th overall with a time of 24:17. Amy Follman came in 126th overall after running a 24:49. The Falcon pushers were Ellie Maione and Tiffany Gardner who ran 25:14 and 25:45 respectively. The Falcon women totaled 367 points. The Falcon men placed 12th out of 39. Senior Jason Phillippi led UWRF with a time of 25:28 and placed 28th overall in the meet. Coming in next for the Falcons was Chad Ernst with a time of 26:07, placing him 58th overall. Following Ernst was Scott Degner. Degner placed 93rd overall with a time of 26:55. Jose Rojas placed 101st with a time of 26:59. Nick Zeien placed 127th overall with a time of 27:22. The Falcon pushers were Ricky Hoffman and Jake Cavanaugh who ran 27:30 and 27:48 respectively. The Falcon men had a total of 402 points. There were a total of 280 runners in the race. The NCAA Division III Nationals will be hosted in Handover IN at 11 a.m. next Saturday. Jordahl will run in the Nationals, and the rest of the runners will be determined this Sunday. |

Men and Women's Teams Place Sixth at WIAC Meet; Jordahl Wins Women's Race Nov. 1, 2008 Both men and women’s teams placed sixth at the WIAC Meet in Stevens Point on Saturday. Junior Becca Jordahl placed first overall in the women’s meet with a time of 21:00.59. Jordahl blew away the competition with an average pace of 5:39 in the women’s 6,000-meter race. Coming in second for the Falcons was Carly Eggert with a time of 23:08. Eggert placed 27th overall. This time is Eggert’s best this year. Christine Peters followed with a time of 23:47 and placed 39th overall. The time was Peter’s best of the season. Next was Leah Korf, who placed 50th overall, and also had her best performance of the season with a time of 24:21. Amy Follman placed 56th overall with a time of 25:20. The pushers were Tiffany Gardner and Ellie Maione, who ran times of 25:24 and 25:44 respectively. With 173 points, the Falcons placed sixth out of nine teams. Senior Jason Phillippi led the men’s team in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 25:01. It was his best time of the season. Chad Ernst placed second for the Falcons, and 15th overal,l and had a time of 25:18. Next for the Falcons was Jose Rojas, placing 48th overall with a time of 26:31. Jake Cavanaugh placed 50th with a time of 26:38. Scott Degner placed 51st with a time of 26:40. The Falcon pushers were Nick Zeien and Ricky Hoffman, who ran 27:03 and 27:07 respectively. The Facons placed sixth out of nine teams with 172 points. Both teams will run at the Midwest Regional in Rock Island Ill., on Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. The event is being hosted by Augustana College. |

Cross Country Teams Place 16th Oct. 18, 2008 The UWRF men and women’s cross country teams both placed 16th at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational hosted at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis., on Saturday. River Falls junior Becca Jordahl placed fourth overall at the Invitational in the women’s 6K with a time of 20:59. This stunning performance was Jordahl’s best time of the season. Carly Eggert placed second for the Falcons with her personal record breaking performance with a time of 23:18, and was 64th overall. Christine Peters followed up with a time of 23:26 and placed 67th overall. Ellie Maione, 146th overall, ran a 24:45 for the Falcons. Tiffany Gardner ran a 24:56 and placed 151st. The pushers for the Falcons were Amy Follman and Kathryn Krause. Follman placed 152nd with a time of 24:56 and Krause placed 163rd with a time of 25:16. Falcon junior Chad Ernst placed 21st overall in the men’s 8K with a time of 24:56. Jason Phillipi came in second for the Falcons after running a time of 25:17 and placing 38th overall. Jose Rojas placed 69th and followed up for the Falcons with a time of 25:41. Scott Degner placed 117th with a time of 26:26, and Nick Zeien placed 18th with his time of 26:38. The men’s pushers were Scott Bowman and Jake Cavanaugh. Bowman placed 134th with a time of 26:40 and Cavanaugh placed 155th with a time of 27:02. The men’s team scored a total of 372 points throughout the Invitational and placed 16th out of 32 teams. Both men and women’s cross country teams will run in the WIAC Meet in Stevens Point, Wis., at 10 a.m., on Nov. 1. |

Men's Cross Country Team Ranked Oct. 7, 2008 The Falcon men's cross country team is ranked No. 10 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest region. Six WIAC teams are ranked including No. 2 La Crosse and No. 3 Stevens Point. Oshkosh is ranked No. 5 Platteville is No. 6 and Eau Claire is No. 7. On the women's side, Eau Claire is No. 1 followed by La Crosse at No. 2 and Oshkosh at No. 3. Platteville is No. 7 and Stevens Point is No. 9. The Falcons will next compete in the Oshkosh Invitational on oct. 18. |

Jordahl Places Second at Oct. 4, 2008 Becca Jordahl placed second at the Pre-National Invitational at Hanover, Ind., College on Saturday afternoon. Jordahl covered the 6,000-meter course in 21:27.99. Bethel's Marie Borner was the individual winner with a time of 21:24.27. Last week at the Griak Invitational, Jordahl beat Borner in the 6,000-meter race. Jordahl finished in 21:59.9 and Borner in 22:01.1. On Saturday the Falcons will run in the Brooks Invitational at UW-Oshkosh. |

Women Place Eighth, Men 15th at Blugold Open Oct. 3, 2008 The Falcon women placed eighth and the men 15 th at the Blugold Open held Friday at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. Christine Peters led the women. She placed 23rd overall in 23:51 over the 6,000-meter course. Carley Eggert was next in 37th place in 24:23. She was followed by Leah Korf, 41st , 24:33, Amy Follmann, 67th , 25:17 and Ellie Maione, 83rd in 25:53. UM-Duluth's Morgan Place won the individual title with a time of 21:32. The University of Minnesota won the team title with 24 points. UWRF finished with 251 points. Sixteen teams competed. The Falcon men placed 15th of 19 teams with 416 points. The Falcons ran as a group with the top five finishers crossing the line in a 29 second span. Scott Bowman led the way. He finished the 8,000-meter course in 27:07 and placed 73rd overall. Nick Zeien was next in 80th place with a time of 27:21. He was followed by Jake Cavanaugh, 84th , 27:25, Taylor Zinnel, 88th , 27:28 and Charles Collins, 91st , 27:36. St. Thomas won the team title with 77 points and St. Olaf's Cobuol Ruon was the individual winner with a time of 24:51.58. On Saturday Becca Jordahl will run in the Pre National Meet at Hanover, Ind., College. The race starts at noon. On Oct. 18 the Falcons will run in the Brooks Invitational at UW-Oshkosh. |

The Falcons will run in the Blugold Open on Friday at 4 p.m. Some members of the team will run at the Pre-National meet in Hanover, ind., on Saturday. |

| Jordahl, Named WIAC Athlete of the Week
Sept. 30, 2008 Falcon cross country runner Becca Jordahl has been named WIAC women's cross country athlete of the week according to league Sports Information Director, Matt Stanek. Jordahl, a junior from Pocatello, Idaho, set a course record in winning the prestigious Griak Invitational race on Saturday at the University of Minnesota. Jordahl was the top finisher with a time of 21:59 over the 6,000-meter course. "Becca was tested throughout the race by two of the nation’s best runners. She passed the test by out kicking them both to the finish line,” said Falcon Coach Scott Sekelsky. Almost 500 runners competed in the race. This is Jordahl’s second win at the Griak. She won last year’s race in 22:01. Jordahl was named the WIAC Runner of the Week on Sept. 16. The Falcons will run at the Blugold Open on Friday at 4 p.m., and some members of the team will run at the Pre-Nationals meet in Hanover, ind. |

| Jordahl Wins Title; Men Place Seventh at Griak Invitational Sept. 27, 2008Becca Jordahl won the race to lead the Falcon women and the men's team placed seventh overall at the Griak Invitational held Saturday. The race was held at Les Bolstad Golf Course at the University of Minnesota. Jordahl won the 6,000-meter women's race in 21:59.9. She beat the second place finisher, Bethel's Marie Borner, who finished in 22:01.1. This is the second straight year that Jordahl has won the Griak race. She won last year's race in 22:01.55. Carly Eggert was second for the Falcons, and 89th overall in 24:42.7. She was followed by Christine Peters, 111th , 25:02.2; Leah Korf, 121st , 25:15.6; Amy Follmann, 185th , 26:17.6, Tiff Gardner, 189th , 26:24.1 and Ellie Maione, 194th , 26:30.3. The Falcons placed 19 th of 36 teams with 507 points. UW-Eau Claire placed first in the team competition with 110 points. Chad Ernst paced the Falcon men to a seventh place finish. He ran the 8,000-meter course in 26:08 and placed 11th overall. Jason Phillippi was just behind with a 14th place finish in 26:09. JD Rojas placed 41st overall in 26:57 followed by Scott Degner, 75th , 27:41, Shad Gausmann, 81st , 27:43, Scott Bowman, 99th , 27:59 and Rick Hoffman, 102nd , 28:01. UWRF finished with 222 points. La Crosse won the team title with 52 points. There were 31 teams competing. The Falcons were ranked No. 9 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region last week. It was the first time ever that the men's team was ranked in the region. The Falcons will next run in the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Open on Friday at 4 p.m. |

On the women's side five WIAC teams are ranked with the top four all WIAC teams. Eau Claire is No. 1 followed by La Crosse, Oshkosh and Platteville. Stevens Point is ranked No. 8. The Falcon men's and women's teams will run in the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday at the University of Minnesota. Several top Div. I, II III and high school teams will run in 10 races. The Falcon women will run at 9 a.m., followed by the men at 10:30 a.m. |

Ernst, Jordahl Run to First Place Finishes Sept. 12, 2008 Chad Ernst and Becca Jordahl each placed first, and the men's team placed first overall, at the All-American Invitational held Saturday at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Ernst ran the four-mile course in 20:51 to capture first place. Jason Phillippi was second in 21:01 followed by J.D. Rojas, sixth, 21:38, Scott Degner, seventh, 21:44 and Richard Hoffman, 17th, 22:14. The Falcons finished with 33 points to win the team title., La Crosse was next with 40 followed by Luther 76, St. Mary's 147 and Viterbo 167. Jordahl ran a 17:58 to win the women's 5,000-meter race. Her time also set a school record. Carly Eggert was next for the Falcons in 19:58 and 15th place. Eggert's time is in the Top 20 for the distance. She was followed by Christine Peters, 19th, 20:21; Leah Korf, 20th, 20:22 and Ellie Maione, 28th, 21:24. The Falcons will take a week off from competition and then run on Sept. 27 at the Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota. |

Falcons Compete at UWEC Hokum Karem Sept. 5, 2008 The Falcon cross country teams competed in the UW-Eau Claire Hokum Karen race on Friday afternoon at Lowes Creek County Park. The Falcon women won, 11-28 and the Eau Claire men won, 14-22. The race features two-person teams. Each person runs three laps of 2,180-meters. The Falcon women placed first, second, third and fifth. The Falcon team of Ellie Maione and Kathryn Krause finished first in 55:08. The team of Tiffany Gardner and Kayla Gaulke was second in 55:30 and the team of Amy Follmann and Brianna Waldvogel placed third in 55:51. The Falcon men finished in second, fifth, seventh and eighth places. Anthony Orlando and Tony Casci placed second in 43:12.5. The team of Taylor Zinnell and Alex Nichols placed fifth in 43:20.5 and the team of Mike Merritt and Ben Anderson placed seventh in 44:21.8. On Saturday, Sept. 13 the Falcons will compete at the All-American Invitational at Luther College. The women's race starts at 11:15 a.m., followed by the men's race at 11:45 a.m. |
