2006 Preview
The Falcon volleyball team returns 13 letter winners for the 2006 season. Six senior letter winners are back which gives the Falcons some veteran leadership and skill level.

The six seniors all started at various points of the 2005 season. Several have been starters, or regulars, in the lineup for the past three seasons. Leading that group are middle hitter Andrea Geehan, setter/outside hitter Kat Krtnick and outside hitter Kate Thompson. Geehan and Krtnick were both named to the All-WIAC team while Thompson earned honorable mention. Geehan, who also earned honorable mention to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team, led the Falcons in kills (467), hitting percentage (.300) and blocks (104). Krtnick, who can play both setter and outside hitter, led the Falcons in digs (1,067) and had 178 kills, 50 aces, 396 digs and 33 blocks. Thompson was second in kills (453) and had a .210 hitting percentage. She led the Falcons in aces, 57, and had 391 digs and 52 blocks.

Molly Thompson, Kate's twin sister, Tressa Gustafson and Lindsey Mace are other seniors who return. Thompson, who missed part of the season with injuries, had 212 kills and 21 aces. She finished with 143 digs and 43 blocks. Gustafson finished the season with 153 kills, 37 aces and 331 digs. Mace led the team in digs (510) and had 39 aces.

The 2005 Falcons finished 17-18, the first Falcon team since 1992 (12-22) that has finished under .500.

UW-RF opens its season on Sept. 1 at the Whitewater Invitational. They play Wheaton and Baldwin-Wallace. On Sept. 5 the Falcons open their home season with a match against Bethel at 7 p.m. The Falcons play WIAC opponents Superior (Sept. 20), Eau Claire (Sept. 27), Platteville (Oct. 6) and La Crosse (Oct. 7) at the Karges Center. UW-RF will host its own Trick or Treat Tournament on Oct. 27-28.
