Jensen Named to D3Kicks.com All-America Second Soccer Team Dec. 13, 2006 Falcon soccer player Amy Jensen (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) has been named to D3Kicks.com All-America second team. Earlier this year Jensen was named to the first team All-Central Region team, She was also named to the All-WIAC first team for the third straight season. Jensen finished with five goals and eight assists for 18 points. She finished third in points for the Falcons. She scored 28 goals, 22 assists and 78 career points. She was named the team's Offensive Player of the Week twice during the 2006 season. The Falcons finished 10-7-2 overall and 5-3 in the WIAC. They advanced to the WIAC playoffs for the fifth straight season in 2006. |

Peterson Named to NSCAA All-Central Region Soccer Team Dec. 1, 2006 Falcon soccer player Ashley Peterson (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn. Forest Lake HS) has been named to the NSCAA All-Central Region second team. Earlier this year Peterson was named to the All-WIAC first team for the fourth straight year. She was also named to the D3Kicks.com second All-Central Region team. Peterson, who played forward for most of the 2006 season, led the team in scoring with 17 goals and nine assists for 43 points. She scored five game-winning goals. In her four year career she finished with 37 goals, 25 assists for 99 points. The 17 goals she scored is fourth most, the nine assists is fourth most and the 43 points is fifth most in a season. The 37 career goals in second, the 25 assists is second and the 99 points is fourth most on the Falcon career list. She was named the team's Offensive Player of the Week four times during the 2006 season. Peterson was named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 10 and Sept. 18. Julie Asselin (1997), Kate Pelinka (1998, 1999) and Sarah Carlson (2005) were all named to the first NSCAA All-Central Region team. The Falcons finished 10-7-2 overall and 5-3 in the WIAC. They advanced to the WIAC playoffs for the fifth straight season in 2006. |

Saufl Named to Second CoSIDA District 5 Team Nov. 8, 2006 Falcon midfielder Kim Saufl (Sr., Champlin, Minn.) has been named to the second College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 soccer team. To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the programs inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports. |

Falcons Blanked in WIAC Semifinal at UWEC, 2-0 Nov. 3, 2006 The UW-River Falls soccer team marched to UW-Eau Claire in hopes of a second round playoff win. To their dismay, the Blugolds clicked on all cylinders and ended the Falcons' season with a 2-0 loss. River Falls was fresh off a 2-0 shutout of UW-La Crosse the first round of the WIAC playoffs and faced the Blugolds in the semifinal for the second straight year. Last season saw the Blugolds blank the Falcons 2-0 and go on to defeat UW-Oshkosh in the final, 2-1. EC scored one goal in each half and all they needed was one of them. The first score came 34:30 into the first half, Shannon Conlin did the scoring. The Blugolds rolled the rest of the way. The Falcons have not seen the WIAC Championship game since their 2003 appearance where they lost 2-1 at the hands of UW-Stevens Point. Amy Jensen led the way in shots taken for the Falcons with three followed by Dianna Hermes' two, Jen Terry's one and Kim Saufl's one. Emily Stieler was in goal for the Falcons and made five saves while allowing two scores. Steiler was in goal for every RF game this season and finishes 10-7-2. Allie Rivard (3) and Liz Weirick (2) split time in net for EC and combined for 5 saves. |

Falcons Win WIAC Playoff Game Against UWL Oct. 31, 2006 On the afternoon of Halloween, the Falcon soccer team left no skeletons in the closet and knocked off UW-La Crosse in a first round WIAC playoff matchup, 1-0. The victory against La Crosse came three days after the Falcons closed out the regular season with a 5-3 loss to the Eagles. Kim Saufl led the way for River Falls and got the only score of the game 36:11 into the first half. The Falcons would not look back and shutout the Eagles. The Falcons will advance to the next round of the playoffs which will take place on Friday. Game time and opponent is still to be determined. |

Falcons Drop Conference Game to UWL Oct. 28, 2006 Two Ashley Peterson goals were not enough in a conference home game against UW-La Crosse. The Falcons lost to the Eagles 5-3. UWL got on the board first when Amy Todd knocked in a goal at 10:46. The Falcons battled back under a minute later when Kim Saufl put home an unassisted goal. The Eagles got one more score in the first half by Jennifer Watry at 24:44 and went into the recess with a 2-1 lead. The Falcons will host a first round WIAC playoff game on Tuesday against an undetermined opponent. Game time will be at 2 p.m. at Ramer Field |

Jensen's Goal Propels Falcons to 1-0 Win at UWSP Oct. 14, 2006 Amy Jensen's goal with under 16 minutes to play was just enough to help lead the Falcon soccer team to a 1-0 WIAC win at Stevens Point Saturday afternoon. Jensen's goal, her fifth of the season, came at 73:24. Kim Saufl picked up the assist on the play; it was her seventh of the season. Pointer goalie Meredith DeCaluwe made a save on a Saufl shot but Jensen was there to bang in the rebound. UWSP outshot the Falcons, 13-8 and had a 6-2 advantage in the first half. Both teams had three corner kicks. UWSP was called for 12 fouls and the Falcons eight. Falcon goalie Emily Stieler made two saves to register her sixth shutout of the season. DeCaluwe stopped six shots. The win was the second straight for the Falcons at UWSP. UWRF had never won at Stevens Point until last year's WIAC playoff game when the Falcons took a 1-0 overtime win. Before that UWRF win the Pointers had won 15 straight matches between the two teams. |

Falcons Lose at Bethel, 2-1 Oct. 13, 2006 The Falcons were able to score the first goal of the match, but Bethel rebounded to take a 2-1 win over the soccer team on Thursday afternoon in Arden Hills, Minn. Ashley Peterson got the Falcons on the scoreboard first with a goal at 8:01 with assists to Dianna Hermes and Amy Jensen. It was Peterson's team-leading 13th goal of the season. Hermes picked up her first assist of the year and it was Jensen's fourth assist of the season. BU came back just four minutes later to tie the game. Aimee Munson scored off an assist from Kristin Kishaba. The Royals, 6-6-2 after the win, got the game-winner at 54:42 when Nicki Luehrs scored with an assist to Jessie Techetter. The Falcons had a big advantage in shots, 23-11. UWRF had 12 shots in the first half and 11 in the second. BU had seven first-half shots and four in the second. UWRF had a 13-3 advantage in corner kicks. Falcon goalie Emily Stieler made six saves and BU goalie Charli Sorensen kept the Royals in the game with 12 saves. Peterson led all players with eight shots. |

She is the first Falcon soccer player to be named to the team. Earlier today she was named the WIAC's offensive Player of the Week. Peterson, a 5-2 forward, played a key role in the Falcons two conference victories against Stout (3-0) and Platteville (3-2). Peterson recorded three goals and three assists over the two-game span. She scored twice, and had one assist, at Stout and came back with a goal and two assists against Platteville. She was involved in every Falcon goal. "I think playing with Kim (Saufl) up front makes it fun for her," said Falcon Head Coach Sean McKuras. "We are seeing a lot of benefits since moving Ashley up front." She currently leads the team in scoring with 12 goals and 33 points. This is the second time this season that Peterson has been named the conference offensive player of the week - she earned the honor on Sept. 25. The Falcons will play a non-conference match at Bethel on Thursday starting at 4 p.m. On Saturday UWRF plays at Stevens Point in a WIAC match that starts at 2 p.m. |

Saufl, Peterson Help Falcons to Win Oct. 7, 2006 Kim Saufl scored twice and Ashley Peterson scored once and had two assists to help lead the Falcon soccer team to a tough 3-2 WIAC win over Platteville Saturday afternoon at Ramer Field. The Falcons grabbed a 2-0 first half lead. UWRF had a strong 15-20 mile per hour wind to its back in the first half and took advantage of it to dominate the first 45 minutes. Saufl and Peterson combined to score both first half goals. The first came at 38:24 and the second at 40:30. Saufl scored the first off a pass from Peterson and the second off a cross. It was Saufl's seventh and eighth goals of the year and Peterson raised her assist total to nine. UWRF outshot the Pioneers, 16-5 in the opening half. The Pioneers had the wind in the second half and that helped tighten the contest. UWP's Ashley Hamilton made it a 2-1 game at 66:55. She scored off a long run. Peterson then scored what proved to be the game winner at 74:55 off a penalty kick. It was her team leading 12th goal of the season. UWP did not give up and made it a one goal game at 85:20 when Allie Metcalfe scored. But the Falcons played well in the final five minutes to get the win despite being outshot, 8-7, in the second half. Falcon goalie Emily Steiler made five saves to raise her record to 7-2-2 on the year. UWP goalie Laurie Trifone stopped 12 shots to keep her team in the game. The Falcons outshot UWP, 23-13. UWP was called for 22 fouls and the Falcons 10. Four UWP players received yellow cards. The Falcons had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. |

Soccer Game to Air on FSN North Wisconsin on Sunday Oct. 5, 2006 The Falcon soccer game against UW-Stout played on Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Menomonie, is scheduled to be broadcast on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. on FSN North Wisconsin. The Falcons won the game, 3-0, with Ashley Peterson scoring two goals and one assist and Kim Saufl scoring a goal and registering one assist. The Falcons, now 6-2-2 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC, host Platteville at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Ramer Field. |

Falcons Blank UW-Stout Oct. 4, 2006 Ashley Peterson continued her season scoring barrage by netting two goals in the Falcons' 3-0 victory at WIAC rival UW-Stout. Peterson got River Falls on the board early with a goal at 4:14, assisted by Kim Saufl. The Falcons held a one goal edge for the entire first half. Saufl would add a goal to her stat line six minutes into the second half. Saufl's goal is her sixth of the season. The score was assisted by Peterson to record her second point of the game. Peterson was not done yet as she put in an insurance Falcon goal at the 66:32 mark. Peterson leads the Falcons in scores this season with 11 goals. RF was able to dominate in the shot department as they more than doubled the Blue Devils, 27-13. Emily Steiler was in goal for the Falcons and played her usual consistent game. Steiler made six saves along with locking up another shutout. |

Peterson Named WIAC Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 26, 2006 Falcon soccer forward Ashley Peterson (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn. Forest Lake HS) helped lead the Falcons to two wins last week and has been named the WIAC Player of the Week according to league Sports Information Director, Matt Stanek. The Falcons beat UW-Superior 4-1 in WIAC play and St. Catherine, 7-0 in two matches at Ramer Field. Peterson led the offense scoring three goals in each contest. Against Superior she scored the team's first three goals; her second goal was unassisted and was the game-winner. Against St. Catherine she scored the team's first, third and sixth goals. She also picked up an assist on the team's fourth goal. "Ashley has the ability to change the game," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. She currently leads the Falcons with eight goals and 20 points. The Falcons will next play at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday in another WIAC match that starts at 1 p.m. |

Two First Half Goals Lift Falcons Sept. 25, 2006 Ashley Peterson and Amy Jensen scored first half goals to help lead the Falcon soccer team to a 2-1 win at Carleton on Monday afternoon. Carleton, now 3-4-1, made it a 2-1 game at 67 minutes when Dylan Welch scored her first goal of the season with an assist to Clare O'Connor. Welch scored off a high cross from O'Connor. Welch led all players with four shots in the contest. Falcon goalie Emily Stieler made three saves in the game to improve her record to 5-1-2. Carleton keeper, Yusi He, stopped two shots. The Falcons held an 8-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but Carleton controlled the second half and had an 8-3 advantage in shots. UW-RF had four corner kicks and was called for 14 fouls. Carleton had one corner and was charged with 10 fouls. |

Falcons Win 7-0 Over St. Catherine Sept. 23, 2006 Ashley Peterson led the Falcons with three goals as River Falls dominated College of St. Catherine on Saturday afternoon, 7-0. Peterson knocked in her second score of the game at 47:01. The Falcon lead was at three and there were no signs of them slowing up. Jensen scored her first goal of the game at 49:23, assisted by Peterson. Kim Saufl was the fourth Falcon player to score when she put in a score at 50:51. Peterson scored her third goal of the game at 55:04, assisted by Jensen. Peterson and Jensen reversed roles on the next and final goal as Jensen scored her second goal of the game at 77:48. |

Falcons Open WIAC Season With 2-1 Win at Whitewater Sept. 16, 2006 The Falcons opened 2006 WIAC play with a 2-1 win at UW-Whitewater on Saturday afternoon. All the scoring came in the first half and the Falcons had to stage a comeback to get the win. UWW's Lindsey Kohlbeck opend the scoring with an unassisted goal at 19:11. It was her first goal of the season. The Falcons battled back and tied the game just 49 seconds later when Ashley Peterson scored her second goal of the year with an assist from Kim Saufl. It was her second assist of the year. The game-winner came at 31:00 when Kim Saufl scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year. Peterson picked up the assist - it was her third assist of the year. Falcon goalie Emily Stieler picked up the win making three saves. She is now 2-1-2 this year. UWW goalies Alyssa Lemke (1) and Sam Neely (2) combined to make three saves. The final shots total were nearly even - the Falcons had eight and the Warhawks seven. UW-RF had four shots in each half while Whitewater had three in the first and four in the second. UWW did hold an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Falcons had 11 fouls and Whitewater nine. The Falcons, now 2-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the WIAC, will next host UW-Superior on Wednesday at Ramer Field in another WIAC game. Action starts at 4 p.m. |

Falcons Tie With Augsburg Sept. 9, 2006 The Falcons played 110 minutes of soccer and ended with a 0-0 tie with Augsburg College Saturday afternoon at Ramer Field. The Falcons had a slight, 15-14, advantage in shots for the game. Both teams had good scoring chances that were either stopped by the goalie or a defender or the shot sailed wide. The Falcons put a push on in the final minute of overtime and had three shots from 15-20 feet in front of the AC goal that were blocked by defenders. AC had 10 corner kicks and the Falcons four. Both teams were called for 12 fouls. Kim Saufl led the Falcons with five shots. Ashley Peterson had four. Whitney Holman led AC with six shots. UW-RF goalie Emily Stieler made five saves and Auggie goalie Maggie DeGroot stopped 11 shots. The Falcons, now 1-1-2 overall, will next open their WIAC season on Saturday at Whitewater with action starting at 2 p.m. |

Larson Named WIAC Player of the Week Sept. 6, 2006 Soccer defender Jessi Larson (Fr., Winona, Minn. Cotter HS) helped lead the Falcons to a 1-0-1 record last weekend and has been named the WIAC soccer Defensive Player of the Week, according to league Sports Information Director Matt Stanek. Larson scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the team's 7-0 win over Northland. She scored her first collegiate goal at 15:45 from just inside the box off a corner kick. "Jessi started both games and came up with a big goal against Northland," Falcon Coach Sean McKuras said. The Falcons, 1-1-1 overall, will host Augsburg on Saturday at Ramer Field. Falcons Lose to Macalester, 2-0 Sept. 5, 2006 Macalester scored two first half goals and made them hold up in getting a 2-0 win over the Falcons on Tuesday afternoon at Ramer Field. Macalester, ranked No. 10 in the pre-season D3Kicks.com poll, dominated the first half of play out shooting the Falcons, 9-2. Grace King scored her second goal of the season off a long run at 14:02. With just under two minutes to play in the half, the Scots grabbed a 2-0 lead when Maggie Yates scored her first goal of the season with an assist to Rachel Oman. Yates scored on a header off a cross. The Falcons had a much better second half and out shot the Scots, 9-7. Amy Jensen led the Falcons with four shots. Falcon goalie Emily Stieler made seven saves. Macalester goalie, Jenny Lee, stopped five shots to earn her second win and second shutout of the season. Annie Borton led the Scores with five shots - all coming in the first half. Kim Saufl, Ashley Peterson and Dianna Hermes each had two shots in the contest. The Scots out shot the Falcons, 16-11 and both teams had 11 fouls. The Scots had seven corner kicks and the Falcons three. The Falcons, now 1-1-1 overall, will next host Augsburg at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Ramer Field. |

Saufl Scores Three Goals to Lead Falcons to 7-0 Win Sept. 2, 2006 Kim Saufl scored three goals to help lead the Falcon soccer team to a 7-0 win over Northland College Saturday afternoon in Duluth. After playing to a 0-0 overtime tie on Friday against St. Scholastica, the offense exploded against Northland. UW-RF led 2-0 after the first half and scored five times in the second half. Jessi Larson scored what proved to be the only goal the Falcons would need at 15:45. It was her first collegiate goal. Jen Terry added a goal at 25:28 with Saufl getting the assist. The Falcons then dominated play for an eight minute stretch in the second half. Saufl scored her first goal of the season at 45:23 with Ashley Peterson assisting. Peterson then netted her first goal of the year at 48:20. The Saufl-Peterson combination connected again with UW-RF's fifth goal at 50:28. Saufl scored her third goal of the game at 53:53 with an assist to Julie Sperstad. Amy Jensen ended the scoring with her first goal of the season with an assist to Amy Piersak at 71:49. The Falcons had 15 first half shots and finished with 37 in the game. UW-RF limited Northland, now 0-1, to just one first-half shot. NC goalie Brittany Ballwanz made 11 saves. The Falcons had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. UW-RF goalie Emily Stieler recorded her second straight shutout of the season. This one was a little easier than in Friday's match - she wasn't required to make a save. She has now played 200 minutes without allowing a goal. The Falcons, now 1-0-1 overall, will next host Macalester on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Ramer Field. Macalester was ranked No. 10 in the D3Kicks.com pre-season poll. |

Falcons Tie at St. Scholastica Sept. 1, 2006 The Falcon soccer team opened its season on Friday battling to a 0-0 overtime tie at St. Scholastica in the first round of the Advantage Emblem Cup tournament. Neither team could score in 110 minutes of action.The Falcons held an 8-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but the Saitns played better in the second half and outshot the Falcons, 10-4. Falcon goalie Emily Stieler, making her first collegiate start, made seven saves. Forward Dianna Hermes led the offensive attack with five shots. The Falcons play Northland at 2 p.m. on Saturday. |
